I think the correct terminology for this practice is
POLISHING A TURD
they are adequate.....nothing more. They are nothing special and most people regret the money they put into them in the end when they realize it could have gotten them into a healthy v-6.
you have to examine your power to weight ratio. for a zuk, 2000lbs sopping wet is what you have to work with. 75 horsepower on the average. .0375 horsepower per pound. not that great.
XJ with a 4.0 is about 3100 or something in that neighborhood... .062 horsepower per pound. with 190 horsepower I-6. keep in mind that cherokees and wranglers weigh just about the same withing a couple hundred pounds.
a 2.5 cant be putting out more than 125 horsepower. .040 horsepower per pound.....not that great and even getting into samurai territory.
just take your horsepower and divide it by your vehicle weight....how does your rig weigh in....
can that 2.5 and go for the chevy 350

The reason that I asked about adding some performance mods to the 2.5 is because I don't have the $ to drop in ANY motor. Even if I did, I would then have to find a new tranny and axles that could hold the power. Oh, and while you may be right about nobody really running a 4 banger in comps right now, sukaB won the UROC championship with a 2.5L YJ
Has anyone ever put a 4.0 throttle body on the 2.5? What kinda hp/mpg gains did you get?

...not a 2.5L3. yes I put a larger throttle body on and again like I said earlier...I didn't notice much of a power increase...the throttle was a little more responsive but no real power gain...I also tried a TB Spacer....cold air intake w/a HUGE K&N...just regular intake w/k&n, I tried most everythingout there...nothing did much of anything to make it worth the money I spent on the motor...thats why I no longer have the squirrels under my hood...

2. yeah I know he's running the 350, but I just thought it would be funny to point that out.
3. Even though you didn't get much gains, would it be worth it just because its cheap and easy?
for as much as I put into the 2.5L I could have bought a 4.3L and bought the wiring to swap it in...the only extra cost would be the tranny and either t-case adapter or a new t-case...I would say dont waste your money on any of the "upgrades" (if you can call them that)...save your money and put it into where you'll notice the difference...gears lockers etc...
