Built... all relative I guess, just like "sweet", "restored", or "custom" these days. ;)

After covering 600+ miles in my 72' FJ40 this past weekend, I am starting to get a different feel for "built". To me it is no longer how big of a rock I can go out of my way to climb, rather how far I can make it in between fillups, how deep of water I can cross, and how comfortable I will be with all my gear, my girl and a snow storm... :D

All relative... :p

Built????

For me, I guess it's how far I can build my rig and still kep it streetable. I would like to have the best of both worlds. It's getting hard. I guess evolution will take its course sooner or later, it will not be road worthy.  :mad2:

very good point here, i saw a newer 4runner last ejs it had only 31s but was supercharged, locked, had upgraded axles and i think had it had 4.88s or 5.29s. id consider this built. small, but built. being built doesnt HAVE to mean big

Built: bi' lt, adj. 1. Not Stock 2. Modified in any way for improved performance 3. Mechanically improved to enhance power, traction, safety, ground clearance 4. Stronger 5. Structural modifications intended to ease entry and exit (ie tube doors or bikini top) or to carry more gear 6. Opposite of bling and lowered 7. Can not be used with weak suck vehicles that need all these modifications just to be able to make it to the trail, ie "Check out my built Escalade."

As said above, "built" it a state or a level, an Idea. To me it means that NEARLY all the systems of a vehicle have under gone at least minor changes of improvement, such as lower gears in the transfer, lockers in the axles, improvements in braking, at least better tires if not bigger, body protection-maybe even trimming a little (aren't those two items opposites?)
Something that is "built" is a vehicle that has been modified to improve it's performance on the type of terrain it was "built" to drive on. My buggy is not "built" for the road, it does not excell in that catagory, but put it in the dirt and rocks and .....
