Can Someone Help Me With A VIN Check?

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
Looks the company that sold me the drivetrain for the hot rod pulled the old switch-a-roo on my engine. The VIN stored in the ecu does not match the VIN they told me I was buying. Interesting huh? So before I call them screaming and cussing, I just want to make sure it's worth cussing over. They advertised my engine as running great and having 43k miles. With my luck, the one I have has 243k on it.

What's worse is that the carfax they sent me back in 8/2014 has a third VIN on it (I just now noticed this). I know it, I'm screwed.

Non of this really matters at this point. I purchased the engine over a year ago. I'm just trying to get an idea if I got taken or not.

Thanks a ton Dempsey for the information. Let me know what I owe you for it. Pretty disappointing though. I'm not sure what to make of it. Seller said it had 43k miles on it. I took the timing chain cover off last night. I was surprised how clean it was and how good the sprockets look. I need to find out how much slop is allowed in the chain, that should give me a good idea of the wear on the engine. I'll be taking a valve cover off as well to see what it looks like in there.

Do us a favor and post which seller it was. Sorry to hear about how they treated you, but at least they would lose a chance at anyone's business from this forum.

Hope all checks out well for you, regardless of the miles.

I just learned there is a number etched into the block that will tell me which VIN it belongs to, so I should be able to narrow it down a bit and go from there. Then I'll talk to the seller and see what they say.

I pulled the engine to do a small frame mod so I was able to find the VIN stamped on the block. It is the VIN ending in 116427! So good chances are it is a low mileage engine. From what Ive seen of the inside of it, I would say it's low miles. :)
