I'm building a bridge 4"X1/2", welding to both sides of the tubeig then to the pig, you can do it pretty tight to the housing and you can weld it in several locations, gives you lots of weld surface for the mild steel to the cast and you're also connected to both tubes. Then whatever your mounts will just be mild steel to mild steel. I orderd some special wire for my Mig, it's a High Nickle alloy, I just called a welding store, told them what I was doing and they recommended som wire, it's $14 for a 3 lb spool.

My plan is make the bracket sit right on the old spring perch that is connected to the pumpkin. I really cant make a bridge because I have my links and spring buckets allready on and there is NO more room. That is why I am trying to put the brackets on the old spring perch. I thought about making a plate that I could just use the old bolt holes and one u bolt then weld my brackets to the plate. I think I might try that nickle wire first though. Thanks a ton!

What welding store did you order that wire from?? Praxxair only has it in a 33 pound spool at 50 bucks a pound!!! $1650 for 10 inches of welding........what a bargain. Airgas had never heard of nickel wire. One other store ....cant remember the name....is looking into it for me.

I knew I should have just kept my leaf springs :mad2:

i did it to my knuckles with my MIG, i set the machine for spray, little pre heat and its holding fine. the knuckles are the same nodgaler iron as the housing, heres a few picture's kinda crappy but show's it can be done, jason.

I have always read that knuckles are steel.

That seems like an awful lot of splatter for spray transfer which is virtually splatter free. What gas, machine, and settings were you using.

its a miller250, i am not runing a true spray, i cheat and use steel mix gas ( 75/25 ) i set the parameter's on the machine for spray but it always spatter because of the gas. the other thing is the is the knuckle it self is a cast, i thought they where a nodgular or a ductiel iron, but here is the same settings welding the T-1 i used on the brace. same thing a little spatter, but digs like if i was using a hoter gas, jason.

Good looking globular. The beads look like true spray. You should try some duel sheild. That machine will run it well and C25 is perfect. It is excelent out of position.

i do use duel shield, i worked in ships yards and now i am a welder for a CAT dealer and all we use is the duel core wire for all our bucket reapirs and thumb installs, love it in the uphills and over head. but when i am home i dont like to use it to smokey, my garage is under the house. this is why i dont use it at home only when i can get the doors open. i should just pick up a tank of 98/2% and have it for this use, but for what i do it digs deep enough, jason.

With my machine, it runs a colder bead. When I had .030 in the machine it wasn't really a problem, but with .035, I get really bad cold starts when I try to weld thinner metals such as 16 gauge. I have a MM210.

I prefer 035 wire, it welds hotter on the same setting as 030. for welding sheet metal I go clear down to .025 then turn the machine up, it works better for me for penetration.
