talking to some of the shops around it seems those to words come out of a lot of peoples mouth.

" I want this like this but just a little different so it looks custom, but I need it to be fairly cheap"

agreed.

time equals money.

Then again, a lot of people like to do custom work to get away from their job, aka making money. Just some relaxing fab work, wrenching, whatever it is they're doing. If they aren't into it for the money but rather a therapeutic release, then time does not = money.

Man that was deep...

I personally find it to be stress relief.

IMO the people that are making these comments need to learn to do the work themselves. Invest the time, money, blood, sweat & tears to get what they want. Then, try to make it 'cheap'.

true, I just don't think they take into consideration the amount of money invested in equipment to make custom pieces. Let alone the time they have spent to learn the ins and outs of what they do.

I often find wrenchin' stressfull. :-\ Fab work is diffrent, that's fun. :D

when I replaced the IP on my truck, I actually enjoyed it. I think mainly because I knew how much money I was saving on labor. :D

That right there is a huge problem: welders cost money. Tube is not free. Burning up rods and tube to learn is not free. The hours of grinding and cutting and fitting are not free. DESIGNING A FUNCTIONAL PIECE OF METAL FOR VEHICLES TAKES TIME

and so on. That's why custom furniture is friggin' expensive, why good paintings cost so much money etc etc

sooooo.. can you make me a sweet custom bumper for like.. $200? LOL

I have never equated custom to cheap. People really do that? Custom = high time/money investment. Mostly time, cuz I don't have any money. :(

Oh, they do!

Even DIY custom cost $$, yes most of us do it for relaxation/enjoyment/etc....but even the most basic of fab tools cost $$$$.

Oh and that car in the pic is not cheap....ever do some plumbing? Those T's and elbows get $$

My biggest peeve is BUMPERS!!!! For some reason, the average Joe seems to think a custom bumper with swing away tire should be cheaper than one he can buy....Steel Horse/genuine steel/and even Currie is going to be cheaper than custom!! "So will you build me a bumper like the one on your truck for $200?" "NO:mad2: "
