You are absolutely correct. But, as of this point, we haven't put that much money into spare/replacement shafts. Probably the most expensive purchase so far has been the spare set of Warn hubs. The time spent locating these great deals is definitely worth something though. I am just not convinced that chrome mollies and CTMs won't solve our problems. That would make our hubs the weak links and those are a breeze to change. Granted, I could be being very naive here, but as of this point, we're only blowing caps. There hasn't been any grenading yet and that gives me hope that with beefier components we'll be fine. Now, feel free to laugh and point and say "I told you so" if this plan fails miserably. This is going to sound retarded and I am well aware of my status as a complete dork, but one of the bigger reasons we're procrastinating on a 60 is that I can't stand the thought of the Bronco undergoing major surgery again any time soon. When the axles and suspension were done a year ago, she was down for 5 1/2 months and that was absolute hell. Chris was miserable, I was miserable, and the kids were crazy. It's kind of like a crack addict quitting cold turkey, not a pretty situation. Plus, we're getting married again in September and Lemon Joy is in the wedding, so she needs to be wheeled hard between now and then to be in her finest form!Well, I put a set of Yukon alloy shafts and the bobby long cryo-treated joints w/ full circle caps in and that reduced the carnage to my superwinch hubs. I didn't mind changing out hubs--takes 5 minutes, have a life time warrenty, and slugs are easy parts to carry on the trail.
But, with as much time as you guys spend on the trail, I would just jump into the 60 and stop worrying about it. If there is a way to quantify all the time and irritation and lost trail time and the time of people waiting and the time tracking down spare stock 44 shafts and the money for that and the time to type how bad 44 parts suck and .....you get the point. all that time has to have some monetary value.
