Concealed carry permit classes?

That's a real shame that you aren't required to shoot. A mistake, IMHO.

I'd actually prefer that the state made you take a scenario-type of test, and yes I'd like them to charge for it, say $100 to defray the costs. But in return, once you've been trained, no lawsuits if you justifiably shoot someone.

A friend of mine took his class out at FBMG and said that they did all sorts of scenario's to prep them. 'Course, he also said he got killed in all of them. ;) One situation was with a plumber coming to your front door. I guess one of the ladies in the class just up and blasted him instead of waiting to find out if he was a robber

Our group didn't have to prove our situation prowess either, which according to what I saw in the classroom may/maynot have been a mistake. The state needs to make sure that when people including myself come out of the program they have skills.
I have to take endless amounts of safety, ethics, export control and operational training every year at Boeing to ensure that when a situation arises I know what to do It should be the same for a CCP
As previously stated after being in a situation when I needed to fall back on my training It was not automatic for me I didn't really no what I should do but after reviewing the situation in my mind I had come to the conclusion that I had provoked the situation even though that didn't warrant the result but if I would have been able to get ahold of my 44 mag (slid under the seat) I am sure I would be typing this from prison. -_-

Yeah, that's a big part of dealing w/CCW. You do not provoke ANYTHING! or the law is no longer on your side, or at least, less so.

The day I got mine, I mellowed right out. :D

That was pretty much me too...after I got my red driver's license I knew it was time to clam up and stop yelling at the soccer moms while throwing beverage cups at their windows!

Yeah I have mellowed after that incident. I was getting ready to get in the left turn lane when I caught a Bonneville passing me in that lane(Illegal as hell) so out came the finger little did I know the person would flip around in the middle of the intersection and chase me down had I not flipped him off none of this would have ever happened. While I was on the phone with 911 I was un able to give a license # address of where I was anything cause the person in the other vehicle had pulled out his gun and had it pointed at me I thought I was going to take one through the door so me giving them that info at the time was not high on my priority list.
I also was chewed out by the detective for flipping this little tweaked out gang bangin SOB the bird he said I had provoked him.

I agree, a shooting test and some intensive scenario training should be required. My wife and I are going to take some classes even though it's not required. One thing that was very evident during the class was that you'd better be 100% sure you are willing to accept all of the consequences before you draw your weapon. You're almost guaranteed to face a civil lawsuit for shooting someone even if it is found that you were justified. Any additional training will help serve as your defense as a responsible CFP holder.

1) You own that bullet and the consequences for whatever it hits.
2) Even if you don't fire your weapon, if you pull it you are probably going to get in trouble.
3) If you kill someone, even if you are in the right, DO NOT GIVE A STATEMENT TO THE POLICE AT THE SCENE! You ask for an attorney right away. You will not remember what happened due to time dilation and adrenaline pump. If you give a statement and you make a mistake at the scene, it can later be used AGAINST you in criminal and CIVIL proceedings.
4) Always always always tell the officer that you are carrying if you get pulled over. With your hands prominently placed high upon the steering wheel say, "Hello officer I have a colt model 1911 on my right hip, it is loaded, I am a CCW holder. What would you like me to do?"

5) If you get a CCW permit, CARRY A GUN!! There is no reason to get a permit and not carry your firearm.

6) This should really be number one but seriously, put rounds through your gun!! Shoot it often. Practice combat reloading!! Get bumpers for your magazines if you carry an automatic and drop those mags on the ground or a table in front of you to simulate a combat situation.
