Dana 60 inner shafts

since you're going through all the trouble, Why not do a 9" and use the 60 shafts, then you get a stronger carrier same diameter tubes, You would probabbly be better off. In my trophy truck, I had a 9" that had r. toyota axles out of an fj40, it worked really well until I bent the housing. I jumped it about 50 feet and about 30 feet in the air. even a trussed 9" couldn't survive. Another option is finding a Rear 60 from a Pre 1973 Two wheel drive chevy, or a B or E body Mopar, they are a partial floating design, and I have heard of people using them for fronts, I have one but I won't let it go for cheap.

I like 9" axles, but I don't want a low pinion diff. And a 9" has one of the lowest pinions of all common axles. I suppose you could get a High9 3rd, but that's way too much money for what I want.

Also, a mentioned eairler in this thread, a high pinion axle will be a stronger front axle.

I don't know that I would agree that a High pinion 44 is as strong as a low pinion 60
the 60 R&P is pretty massive. You could flip the 90 add a slinger and redrill the case.

I never said a HP 44 was stronger than a LP 60.

Running a flipped 9 is too much trouble for my use, IMO. I think a 44 center will have enough strenght for a little Toyota 4 cyl.

NOS, NOS, You can break it that way. I've been thinking of building a buggy with a centered GM Quad 4 I've got a hot one about 228 HP (at 7700 RPM) with the muncie that came with it, Kind of like what they are doing with the Honda Vtechs, but with GM Parts (Okay it's an AUDI but whose counting, it has a GM Badge) I didn't mean to hijack you're thread, sounds like a good plan for an axle, just trying to be helpful.

Build it! Sounds cool, Quad 4's are cool motors.

No prob, I appreciate the ideas.

That will only work if you have the drivetrain backward. (rear engine or whatever) Otherwise you'll be driving backward.

You'de have to have a reverse cut ring and pinion too.

i dont think you could use reverse cut gears in a standard housing, they contact the gears in a different posistion, jason.
who makes reverse cut gears for a 9"

true HI9 makes there custom gears for there applacation only, currie use's ford 8.8 front thrid member, strong in the front ( currie ) only rated for 35'' tires and under 250 HP for a rear set up, the HI9 clames you can rip alot more HP thru there unit, jason.

As 420willys pointed out, reverse cut gears are for use with high pinion axles--they don't actually reverse the direction of rotation.

I totally believe the True Hi9 will take more abuse than the Currie 8.8....it doesn't take all that much to break that gearset in a rear application.

Hey Greg, wht don't you just call Dynatrac and have them ship you some of their bestest custom front and rear stearing HP60's so all these hijackers will shut the heck up? :hickey:
