I raised the dead to help answer a question. Since I wrote this thread I have mounted and dismounted many, many tires and have saved a buck or two in the process.

Good on ya Shawn. I don't know why everyone is whining so much-like those who have done it have said-it's not that hard. I used to change tires exactly the way shown on semi trucks all day long. There is a bit of technique involved but after you do one or two it is really pretty easy. Windex and liquid soap also work wonders if you are out of Murphy's. :D

Great write-up!

i have done this on the trail- I once had to use duct tape wrapped around a tire sidewall to get off a trail.- i carry a few patches in my tire plug kit now.

it can get you off the trail when you punch thru a sidewall.

yes i have a spare-- but on a week long trail that tire shop is along ways away.

i used just some water from the cooler and my bar of trail soap to help in re-seating the tire, and a ratchet strap!

Shawn, that is the greatest photo ever posted on RME. IMHO bested only by the one of a kind, original oil on canvas portrait in your living room. For that my friend, that makes you a true pimp:cool:
