Do I expect too much?

So, here I was at Maverick earlier this evenin picking up a sixer of Michelob. Get up to the cash register and get nothing out of the clerk working. Not even a glance at me. Just grabs my purchase and rings it up. I've already got my card out ready to go.....but.......bam! Miss 40+ year old, missing teeth and forgetting what shampoo is get's a text on her Cricket **** box cell phone and immeadiately forget's that she's on the clock, supposedly working. So, I stand there for a another 10 seconds thinking maybe she'll get out of the crack induced fog and remember she's working and I am standing there waiting to pay. Nope. I actually have to say "Hello.....here's my card." Finally get a response which equalled grabbing my card and staring at me, which at this point I said credit. After that, a pen was tossed at me and I signed and left. Walking out the door, all I could say was "wow."

In closing, do these people that work these dead end jobs at the age of 40+ not understand that they are shooting themselves in the foot? They'll never get anywhere with that attitude at work? I just don't see how people can be so oblivious to their surroundings. I can see exactly how they're stuck in that line of work and why I consider them, sadly to say, trash.

Guess customer service has just gone done the pipe......I constantly compare how the company I work for is with compared to what I see day to day. No one gives a rats ass anymore. And they wonder why they make minimum wage

Good help is hard to find, especially in that setting...That type of service seems to be the standard these days, makes me crazy.

Here's the thing........I can see highschool kids doing this job to make some cash while in school...but I don't. It's stupid that these people that are older than me by 10-20 years are working these dead end jobs. How do people get stuck in a rut like this? Do they not know? Paycheck to paycheck is not living :(

Here is the opposite. I may be getting old...ok almost 29...

But I was at the gas station at 3500w and 4800s in Roy, the clerk was polite, friendly, and here was the odd part...

He counted the change out! I havent had anyone do that in years...

In NY, you have to be 18 to deal with alcohol.

Anyway, yeah, I think you expect way too much-- THESE DAYS. It shouldn't matter that working at the Maverick is a sh*t job that attracts f***ups and retards-- what should be and once was common civility is gone. The managers of stores like that often aren't much better. I worked graveyards at a StopNRob that was run by a very civic-minded Indian immigrant who would have fired any one of his employees for acting like that. He was all about being a real, old-school American, all helpful, community-minded, fair, etc etc etc.

I hardly ever go to our 7-11 anymore, because it is staffed by 30-40yr old ex- or current-methhead b*tches that can't be bothered to respond to customers if they've got anything at all that interests them more. They're like retarded puppies or something.

I feel your pain, bro. :D

The sad part there is that people from out of country have more respect for what I want than the piece of **** people in this country. I wish that I could deal with that guy all the time instead of the crack heads that I deal with at gas stations and what not.

Im online at 3am this morning because I cant sleep knowing that I have to go into work tommoro and get rid of some of my workforce because they are of this kind of attitude. one is 28 yrs old with a new family, and cares less about his own economy than I do. I have no idea what is wrong with people these days. Has welfare became so plush that people have the hard decision between being to work on time and doing a half-assed job, or just staying home and letting the rest of the tax payers take care of them?

To bad you feel that way. I think the world is pretty awesome. Customer service goes a long way but I don't expect to have my butt kissed everytime I buy something and neither should Brett.
