Dove tails on trailers

What do you all think about dove tails on trailers? I like the part where I wouldn't have to pull ramps whenever I loaded, but don't like the thought of dragging it over severely undulating terrain.

If it's primary purpose is for your buggy then IMO, the dovetail is just an added expense. If you may be hauling other things (particularly cars) they make it very nice and easy for loading.

I very rarely ever drag mine. Once you know where it will hit it's easy to take the spot on a little angle and avoid the dragging. I LOVE not having to get my ramps out. Also if you put feet on the back like I have when you do hit it will be on the feet.

I had no problem loading my Cherokee on to my trailer without a dovetail.Every once in awhile I would have to use the ramps if it was muddy.

Yeah a 7k trailer wouldn't really need it, they sit a bit lower and when you start putting weight on them they get even lower.

Have any of you put rollers on the back for when you do hit? I am thinking of adding 2 feet onto mine this way. Wondering if it works.

I think I've hit mine on a driveway 1 time in almost 3 years. I've drug it in dirt (intentionally) through a bad dip/rut maybe 3 times.

Come on Bart I don't have a dovetail and the samurai doesn't use ramps. You gotta learn how to drive;)

X2. I see no reason to have one for buggy only reasons. However, if the price is right, why not?

My dad put steel rollers on the back of his non-dovetailed 16 footer, and they were broken in like 2 trips. They end up just hanging lower than the trailer originally did. If you have to drag it sometimes, just drag it.

Hahaha, this is cracking me up. I bought the used 2008 Carson yesterday with the dove tail. The price was just too good. I was planning on buying new wheels anyway, so if there's room I'll just buy 16" wheels and run load rated take off tires from new trucks. That way it lifts the trailer a bit and tires will be cheaper and easier to find.
