Heres your chance :
A major parts chain is building a new parts store in Moab .
What they are asking for is a list of parts that you would like to see available on the shelf in Moab? What have you looked for in the past? What have you needed that you couldn't get in town? What would have made your trip to Moab easier??
Your suggestions will be passed on to the power that make the decisions.

I need to have a list by 10-17-06 so let me know what you would like.

Being that ZuZoo used to be the third largest permitted event in Moab as well as we have other events down there annually I would like to see some of the "achillies heel" parts of the Isuzu's kept on the shelf. Nothing worse than being stranded for three days waiting on tie rod ends.
1.Isuzu tie rod ends 1st gen, 2nd gen, and the bastard years 95.5 to 97
2.CV axles for the fore mentioned
3.D44 parts for the stock rearends
4.most folks(probably half) who have completed an SAS conversion are running Waggy (77-79) D44's on the front
5.Rear leaf center pins
6.Warn Premium Hubs for a trooper (they fit everything in the Isuzu world)
7.ARB parts (seems to be the locker of choice

That really is about all that breaks on these vehicles. They are surprising tough.

one more, center carrier bearings for those that haven't gone the 6 states or Tom Woods one piece route for a driveshaft.

How about a few Samurai axle shafts, and maybe some stock leaf springs? Even though I haven't run stock Sammy axles for years, I used to have a pretty good supply, but I have sold/given them all away over the years. Seems like every time someone breaks one, they go to Moab OutPost, and Steve sends them to me. Not that I mind, but I don't have any more to give away.

I couldn't find a air filter last year... it was just a simple 9inch round one... could have been anywhere from 2in to 4 inch in height... ended up making my own... and I agree ujoints for everything!!!

Tom wood driveline is up in harrison utah just north of ogden... if you take the exit with maverik and mcdonalds on the north side... turn east and go to the next light (i think) and then go south its about 2 blocks down in the office complex... far west side on the south row...

Personally if it were mer opening up a business down there I would keep an eye out for the different events coming and when they are. Just about every tyoe of vehcile has a special event down there: jeep safari, jeep jamboree, ZuZoo (Isuzu's), Crawloween (Isuzus), Land Cruiser has a few runs, Unimog, Jeep/Unlimited, Broncos, etc. Find out who the host(s) are and make contact with them a month or so out to find out what is the achillies heel of that particular brand, inquire as to how many folks are coming down, make a best guestimate of the need for the parts then stock up. It just might some really good friends with a lot of different brands within the four wheeling world. IF you have over stockage, keep them for next year and adjust your order or you could feel orders via phone. I know inb the Isuzu world darn near everyone gets their OEM parts from St Charles Isuzu in Missouri. He gives 10% discounts and ships for free. Now that a certain individual has left that business they are losing their rep so folks are looking eslewhere. I'm sure there are alot more, as they call us "oddball wheelers" out there with similiar stories. Most of the time when we are at ZuZoo there is major carnage and folks are forced to UPS next day from St Charles. Next day service they charge.........alot.

ANYTHING Toyota! Seems like Jeep parts are around, but bust a Toy there and you're SOL....

(yeah, I found out the hard way)

Bad part is, they'd go broke stocking everything for every brand.

i totally agree with this... gears for sure.. 4.10's, 4.88's, 5.29's... i second the drive line shop too...

i'm sure that if you overstocked at all it's garunteed to sell at some point. probably sooner than later unless it's a really odd item... like anything Isuzu;) .. just messin wit ya you zuzu guys...

i'm going to be moving down there in a year or so with my job and have been thinking about selling yota parts, cause there is a shortage on yota parts.

my $.02... but don't actually, physically wheel my truck? who does that?

Parts I, or people I was with, needed and couldn't get:

1- Dodge 440 timing chain
2- Dodge rear Dana 60 30 spline shafts
3- Someone to re-tube a driveshaft
4- Driveshaft, New Process transfercase, and Dana axle u-joint yokes.

I honestly believe Moab needs a good driveshaft shop that also carriers axle parts (yokes, axle shafts, bearings, seals, ect..), transfercase and transmission parts (yokes, shifters, clutches, ect..). Could you imagine a good driveshaft shop with shelves full of used or new Dana 30, 35, 44, 60, 70, Corprate 10, 12, 14 bolt, Sterling, Rockwell, Model 20 parts, and every kind of transfercase? It's too bad Tom Wood's closed his shop.

X2 on both accounts.

Also, if a repair bay is available, how about stocking some basic fab parts too.. some universal tabs, a selection of decent heims, weld in tube inserts, a selection of tubing, etc.

While this is the ultimate wishlist, in reality it just can't happen. Remember people, the locals are trying to make a living there as well. This mainly applies to the last two items.

We go down there, and we're not newbies. Go prepared, or drag your crap home. If you're not prepared, pony up to the local shops to fix your junk, and pay the price.

While you can't pack for every failure, and parts were the original topic here, if you're busting your chit without a place to fix it or the tools to do so, take it to one of the local shops! (altough, they need to be willing to go 24/7 durring EJS)
