Why should we help those that can't help themselves? If they have an addiction they should be getting over that addiction, not using Federal dollars to promote it...Can't hurt to make sure the people receiving assistance aren't just screwing themselves over.
"Smith said the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled it would be an unlawful search and seizure to require a drug test before receiving government money. "
There is a rule similar to this that prevents the Post Office from doing drug testing on its employees, it would be unfair and discriminatory to ask or require them to do a drug test, you can only imagine what the work force looks like.....
I propose that we stop giving them a welfare check. If the recipients test positive, what are we going to do from there?
Sentence them to jailtime where they'll be thoroughly rehabilitated through the wonders of systematic *ss-rape?
Treatment wouldn't have to come into play. People can own up to their own problems and provide their own solutions without relying on someone else to do it for them. AKA - personal responsibility.Treatment will have to come into play, and then there will be the managing of those results. The expense would appear to add up quite quickly.
Not a bad ideaI contend that if we pay a recipient of welfare, we should expect a service in return. To what degree, i dont know, but we as taxpayers should expect something in return.
Maybe so, but I'm personally sick of dishing out thousands upon thousands every year to perpetuate anyones teat-sucking lifestyle. :-\Pennies in a bucket

You're only against this because it's Hatch that has proposed itI really need more facts than this article can offer before coming to a conclusion. Right now, it just appears to be posturing.

Pennies in a bucket, Hatch can suck it.

Exactly.
If you fail a drug test for a job, you don't get arrested. You just don't get the job. Same premise here.
You're only against this because it's Hatch that has proposed it
If they fail, they don't get a check...pretty simple. I do agree that we should be getting something from all the people on welfare. There are a lot of government jobs that could go to these people. "Free" labor (saving money) and hopefully no druggies...sounds like a win-win.
I truly couldn't give a flying fawk about hatch or any other party affiliations. i just dont subscribe to any party line in particular.
I never said a word about party affiliations. I think that ANYONE that claims loyalty to ANY single party is a shallow narrow minded sheep.
