Probably not exsplosive, that would just be a criminal act with these type of burn conditions. From my understanding its just random bullet fragments when they glance off of rocks and create sparks.

"When bullets strike rock, heated fragments can break off. If the fragments make contact with dry grass, which can burn at 450 to 500 degrees, the right conditions can lead to wildfires."

I haven't seen anyone shooting explosive targets behind the lake but a bunch of people with all the cheap armor piercing surplus ammo that has been put on the market that will cause quite the spark when the metal core hits a rock.

AF Canyon was really smokey last night. It was tough to see. Now I know why. The smoke is all drifting over into the canyon. Tonight's winds aren't going to help those poor firefighters.

This wildfire season has already been so bad this year, I think we need to halt shooting out there. This is only the beginning if things keep going the way they are. This year is going to be horrible for wildfires.

I've been told that some of the houses have been asked to evacuate. On a happier note, the smoke is now white and grey. I can't see flames anymore, and I can't see any dark black smoke from where I'm sitting.

We were just asked to evacuate about 10 minutes ago - no ETA as to when we can return. No threat of fire to our homes, just too much smoke.

I have to agree with banning shooting out there at least when the fire danger is high. I'm sure there are plenty of other places in Utah that need a high fire danger shooting ban as well. There are plenty of places for people to go shoot and not risk starting a fire.

Joy. Bets that this will end up in a ban?

I bet land managers don't have the authority. If they did, I would expect many permanent shooting bans on public lands to have been in place for decades already, for many reasons.

Second the strong suspicion of el-cheapo steel jacketed ammo or bulk tracer or AP crap ammo that has been flooding the "blaster" market in recent years. Could happen with just about any ammo I suppose, with the right conditions and enough bad luck, but the number of times it has been happening, I have to think the type of ammo being used is playing a large part.

We just evacuated. We could see flames less than a quarter mile from our house. We woud have loaded up the jeep but the front suspension is torn down right now :-\

Man, that sucks. I was just thinking about that myself. My rig is torn apart, and it'd be my primary escape/end of the world/zombie/emergency vehicle. It would suck to have it torn apart when you needed it most.
