Hmm. Don't you fellers feel bad leading that poor young man astray? Tsk tsk.

As far as the WVC child molesting cops, all 7 of them.... if a mall ninja rat said it, it's money, baby: MONEY!!!

OK here is a notion, this is the Easter Jeep Safari right? You can only register for the EJS if you have a street legal vehicle that has a currant license, registration and insurance. So why all the unregistered rigs? I realize there is a competition the first weekend and the last but that accounts for only about 50 trailered rigs and they will be unloading at BFE.
BTW if you get caught, you can loose your rig right on the spot. Better to at least have an OHV tag and get a ticket.
The added enforcement is not new but what has changed is the fact there are more violators. I guess that is a good reason to stay away from Moab during EJS unless you are a participant of either EJS or the comps.

Is it true that you can only register a rig for EJS if it is street legal? Never heard of this but..... I have never looked into any such rules, I have always wanted to stay away from the crowds.
I agree that vehicles that are not street legal should not be roaming the main roads in Moab. However, having these vehicles traveling short distances from one trailhead to another on a low traffic road might be something the "locals" could overlook. I think this is part of the atmosphere of wheeling in Moab.

Look at what has happened to Sturgis over the years. Yea, there are residents that would like it all to go away. There are also locals that look forward to it each year. Being part of a "tourist" town also brings headaches. But, a "tourist" town also relies on the revenue during their seasons(s). Do you really think all the shops in Moab would still be there next year if the wheeling was gone? Look at the big picture.

Common my friend you can't sell that to anyone. Yes, they have to be licensed, registered, and insured but that doesn't mean that they are street legal. Anyone that has ever participated in the event can attest to the fact that there are many that would not be street legal. They might not be flat out rock buggies, but a lot have tires to wide, tires that are not covered, missing mud flaps, or flaps that do not meet code, non-jeep vehicles with removed doors (ILLEGAL), off-road lights above 53 inches, illegal exhaust, bumpers that don't cover the track width. Need I go on. Just something to think about if you don't have a rock buggy but are still heading down there.

Different states have different laws regarding what is able to be licensed. To register for the EJS you have to have a current license in the state you live. So a rig might have more tire sticking out if licensed in Idaho than Utah but they all have to comply with Utah State Laws to be legal to drive on the street in Utah. This is one of the main reasons we were able to convince our legislators to relax the lift laws that were in effect a few years ago. So I stand on what I said.

With that said, I have taken the chance of a ticket with our Jeep taking the windshield and flairs off to run around Moab.

No way dude!!!! I thought that the weirdos were just cops, and catholics!!!!
I heard there were like 7 all in on it. One being a captain that was given information on it before 4 or 5 of the guys got busted with kids in their beds. The source was a gentleman that used to go to school with me and worked security jobs on the side. He had a lot of dirt on a lot of people and worked close with the feds as a snitch. It was a few years ago, I think he said they were listed!!!! They investigated and some guys got off and others switched departments/jobs but didn't serve jail time. It matters not what I do, only that I know and knowing is half the battle!!!!! I don't mind cops, but some have a chip on there shoulder.

Sounds like your friend is a talker.... "yeah, i'm a informant for the FBI...yeah...I'm really cool, hang out with me...."

I can not even believe this thread has gone this far!! If your not legal, your not, and you know it. Deal with it!!!!
Part of the reason I sold my motorhome and bought a PSD was so I had something to drive to dinner and around town. Yes, I have driven my illegal rig on the streets in Moab, but at the time it was legally licensed. Registed prior to cutting it up. And also insured! Now that it is not licensed or insured, I trailer to as near the trail head as I can. I know this and I deal with it!!!!
IF I get a ticket driving to the trail, I will deal with it too!! Just because it's EJS, or Moab, or my farts don't stink, does not make me above the law!!!!
My HELL people, you sound as bad as the 14 year old I argued with about his ticket for possesion. "well it should be legal" GUESS WHAT....It is not, and you know that!!!! So don't be pissed you got caught/the law is being inforced!!

There have been A LOT of extra cops in Moab for the last several EJS's!! Nothing new here. If they didn't need them, they wouldn't be there....Law enforcement is supply and demand.... :D

Grow up, stop whining, and deal with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rant off

Sorry for making the intelligent people here read that......

Yes, it's true. You can only have a licensed rig on an organized trail run with RR4W. But that doesn't restrict anyone else from running the trails any other time, hence all the buggies. All the extreme trails (helldorado's, proving grounds, coyote, etc) attract the buggies, not PSM or Steel Bender. On the RR4W organized runs I've been on, I've never noticed an extremely illegal rig. Sure, a tire might stick out and they might not have mud flaps, but that's how they drive it every day around our towns. I'm glad all the cops will be around. There are some idiots that need to be locked up. It's because of all the stupid spring breakers and drunk morons that I'm going down a week early. I still like to donate to RR4W and go on their organized rides, but I won't be going the week of Big Saturday anymore.

I'm talking about the different states. I'm talking about the registered Utah vehicles. Illegal is illegal whether small or large. I've driven illegal vehicles i the past and I was willing to deal with the fact that I may get cited...............Which I did and didn't throw a ***** at all, because I knew I was wrong.

As for the out of state vehicles having to comply with Utah law is a complete farse. I was a federal LEO. It's federal law whether a select few individuals of certain agencies want to educate themselves on the law or not. Title 18, a state cannot enforce their motor vehicle safety codes on a vehicle that is registered out of state, if said vehicle complies to all of it's home states rules and regulations. Yes they can right you a citation, but it will never hold up in court. They are banking on you not to be willing to come back to the state and fight it. I've been down this road to many times.

That's interesting. As I do a lot of travelling and there are many small towns with very important local police officers, I'd like to have that in print. Anyway an ordinary Joe can get that?
I've got a couple tickets like that, that are in the process of being dealt with. So far, they want money and they'll forget alllll about it.

Off topic? oh hell no, this topic is dead. NEXT.
