Extraction Expedition

My friend has a cabin south of dugway some where. He and his family were headed out there last week. Two of there trucks slid off the road and down in the bottom of a canyon. The trucks are still there. They need these trucks for there work. So they are in double trouble. My friend Lowell is a great guy and always falls on hard times, health problems, family problems, you know what I mean? This cabin is there only place to get away from their daily life. I haven’t been there but it is more of a shack that their father built decades ago. In short this guy Lowell really needs some help.

I don't know any more details. I do know there are enough winches and capable, experienced people In the Utah 4x4 community that we could do a great service for this family.

The plan is to meet at the Chevron in Magna 8400W 2700S at 8:00am Saturday (2nd of Feb). Lowell will show us where his trucks are at and we can do the rest.

Lowell would never ask for help, so I am asking for him.
Plus with all the snow we are getting this week it will be a great challenge and adventure.
Please, all help is needed even if you don't have a winch I think we will need willing hands, good ideas, and anchor rigs.
Thank you
Karl

does anyone know how far off the road these trucks are? this is one of those things that we need to know in order to bring the right equipment...

I'm pretty sure I can be available? (unless work blows up again)

edit: Oh, and I have a winch on my rig but an anchor vehicle would probably be required. How far off the road are the rigs?

what size rig would be good to anchor your rig? I have a zj...

Depends on how far down the recovery is. A ZJ would be a good start. I'll probably have my PowerJoke nearby if that's not enough (that's assuming I get my crap together at work through the week--I could really use some time away from here :D ). It just depends on what kind of trucks we're recovering. If they're one ton diesels that are loaded with work equipment, I'm probably quite a bit over my head. If they're stockish trucks, I might be OK with what I have, and if they're "compacts", I bet we can get them.

Anyone have any actual towing bridles or other recovery stuff? I can probably borrow some, but I'm not sure. Snatch blocks and whatever else can be quite handy as well (that I don't have).

Exellent, I will get more details, like how far off the road and what kind of trucks they are.

I will also find out the general location and we can arange a second meeting place out west.

Thank you!

I have three vehicles with winches, and five or six with out winches that are committed. We could use some more winches and all the man power or moral support we can get. If we get enough help we can split up and get both trucks out quickly and have the rest of our Saturday. I will be headed straight back to town to work on my honey do list. Others may stay and play it the snow covered hills.

The trucks are a full size GMC short bed regular cab and an extended cab long bed ¾ ton ford. The GMC is not to fare of the road that it can’t be winched back on. The Ford slid all the way to the bottom of the canyon. It is still upright. There used to be an old road in the bottom so we will have to break a trail to the truck from up or down the canyon. But it is accessible.

The trucks are about 8-10 miles the other side of lookout pass. I have the directions and my friend will be there to show us where the trucks are.

I am going to make three meeting places, to include those in Tooele area and those coming from the south.

I am changing to original time too.

Saturday 2nd Feb
8:00am @ the Chevron in Magna 8400W 2700S (Look for a white Montero with a rack)
8:30am @ the Phillips 66 in Tooele. The one with the Wendys.
9:00am @ the Junction hwy 73 from Lehi and hwy 36 from Tooele.

(If you know the pony express rd that cuts off from 73 and goes to 36 great meet us at 36 at about 9:15. If you don’t then meet at one of the places above.)

Thank you for your help, and thank you to all who are willing to help but can’t make it.

Good luck. Usually I'm all over these, but the only winch I own now is laying on my garage floor waiting for a buggy.
