Fat man on a little bike.

So in some of you know from another thread I'm waiting for my V-strom 1050 XT adventure to show up. Well last Sunday on Mother’s Day I was surfing the Internet looking at adventure bikes and saw like a whole bunch of the Honda Grom’s set up with bags and Nobbies. Now I have to admit I’ve seen these mini bikes bikes around and I’ve seen them mobbing around downtown in groups, I mean I’m 40 years old but I’m not afraid to admit that looks like a good time. So I started looking at the classifieds at Honda Grom‘s and then started looking at some of the Chinese stuff and then I came across a bike that has 150 cc vertical Engine opposed to 125 cc horizontal it also had a five speed manual transmission and after searching the web they had really good reviews I found a place that was selling them for about $400 less shipped then on Amazon and they include a two-year powertrain warranty. So I somehow decided just to order one on a whim.

Well it showed up today I got it put together along with doing a rear fender eliminator that I got on Amazon removed the front turn signals and integrated the built-in ones that are part of the tank in shrouds I ordered some pro taper handlebars and some other goodies from Rocky Mountain ATV but unfortunately they shipped FedEx this time and FedEx sucks D**k like Vacuum so who knows when I actually see that stuff because they can’t manage to deliver anything. Oh I take that back they did deliver a pellet smoker to my house today I didn’t order one and the address is nowhere near even close to my address FedEx is literally the worst.

So get it all put together minus a few of the extras that I’m going to switch out if they ever show up and turns out it’s just as fun as it looks. I haven’t really got it out on the main road to see what kind of top speed it has but it got up to 52 miles an hour pretty easily before I had to start braking.

I put insurance on today at 75 bucks for the year of liability. It’s $220 a year for full coverage but I don’t see me really caring if I crash it.
The MSO is supposed to show up a few days later so once I get it titled and licensed I don’t know what I’m going to do with it exactly. some thoughts are realize it’s stupid for a 40-year-old man to be riding around on a minibike and list it for sale and try to get my money back. Build a removable rack for the back of the van and have a fun little bike that I can take on trips and cruise around the cities.

Or maybe just try to talk some more friends in getting them and have a middle-age Mini Moto gang.

This is really funny. I have been looking at Gromz and z125’s all week. My son really wants me to buy one for some reason, and I’ve got a ttr that I think I could basically trade straight across for it.

I was really close to buying one a couple time. But didn’t because I remembered how dumb I think people look on them.

But pending your experience, maybe I will by one. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Link or model to what you bought?

It’s definitely funny how point of view can be so different from person to person. I see people on them and I’m just like damn that looks like a good time. But I know a lot of people that think they are dumb.

i have some work travel coming up. Once I get a plate on it come grab it for a week while I’m gone and see how you like it.

We did a test ride at the vegas supercross a few years ago on the Z125. I remember them being fun, but I also remember wishing they had more power.. but I guess I shouldn’t expect too much out of a 125 bike.
I’d be very interested in riding yours sometime.

Have I mentioned how much FedEx sucks. My package from Rocky Mount ATV still hasn’t been delivered and the tracking information is now updated to Monday apparently takes FedEx five days to deliver a package from Payson Utah to Salt Lake City. And this is like the absolute normal I have never had FedEx deliver a package since moving into the city that is even close to being on time. It kind of surprises me that Rocky Mountain ATV started shipping FedEx I’ve never had an issue getting my order more than one business day normally and two at the most. It’s a bummer that I’m just going to have to start ordering stuff on Amazon.
This might also be interesting

With a top speed of 35 mph and a ride time of two hours with I’m assuming not an adult my size and probably not riding through the hills of the North Salt Lake bench, that doesn’t really interest me. My boys and me do have the electric scooters and those things are an absolute blast and we get 20 mile range on them which is plenty but those are like $350 for two grand I would rather just buy an ebike I think.

I've had that same 5 day delivery from RMATV from fedex. Stupid.

After looking into that bike, I came to the same conclusion.

But I do have a feeler out on a 2023 grom.. :ugh:

That’s it. I’m getting two for my daughters to ride to school/work.

I think it would be awesome for my cute twin girls to ride them as well. They'd be the coolest chicks in school.
Problem is, it's always the high school kids and moms that you see riding them (or scooters) in flip flops and no helmet.
Least amount of skill, least amount of protective gear, and least visible machines. It's a recipe for death.

I agree.
First thing Livy did when I showed her the bikes and presented the idea is she went and found a nice helmet all on her own. She learned early on when riding her JR50 that we gear up when we ride, no matter what. I think that idea is still in her head.

Now that she buys her own gas for the LJ, she really likes the idea of 130 mpg.

I'm down.
My buddies all have those Coleman mini bikes and mob around SLC in big groups.

My classy old timer motorcycle friend told me once, "scooters are like fat chicks- fun to ride but you don't want your friends to see you on one."

My wife and I have had 3 or 4 scooters in our history. I just sold our Honda Metropolitan 2 weeks ago Haha

I can get a sub 3k Honda Navi.
But I'd rather have a clutch.
I got about > < close to buying a knockoff Honda Grom- an "Ice Bear 125" it was a pile of crap and I skipped spending $500 used.

Maybe I can try yours out.

okay I see how you have a valid point here.
These things are absolutely ridiculous. But to be fair I look pretty dumb without the mini bike too.

Yesterday I installed some Bluetooth speakers in my stupid overpriced Klim helmet so I decided to give her a top speed test. It’s 67 mph on the speedometer but it felt optimistic so I did another run with my phone GPS speedometer and it was like 56 mph. So the speedometer is extremely optimistic. But I am 235 pounds so with A less fat man I think 60 miles an hour is pretty reasonable to expect.

But it does get up to 45 miles an hour really fast and easy and can drive in normal traffic just fine.
