Feinstein Goes For Broke With New Gun-Ban Bill

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
Josh, you and your wife should go shooting with me, my wife and kids. My daughter has been asking when we're going to go....I'm just kinda waiting for a less-arctic day to do it. :)

I think everyone in the house knowing how to use and respect guns is the key to safety (and because of that, they also know what NOT to do)--and the gun safe is there just in case of friends coming over who DON'T have the same knowledge.

I would like that. I think it's a great idea to have the kids involved with it as well. I just don't think my wife will go for it yet....

Regardless of gun ownership in YOUR house, it's important for your kids to have a basic understanding of gun safety. You never know when they might be at a friend's house, and their friend does something careless or stupid with a firearm.

My wife wasn't exactly comfortable with guns either, especially when I picked up a M4 (AR-15 family) rifle a few years ago. I eventually got her to the range to shot, and now the M4 is her favorite gun to shoot because it's such a pussycat.

I think Carl has the right idea. It takes some time for people that are not used to guns to get accustomed to them. If she spends some time out with people that have fun with them, even if she does not shoot it will normalize to her. Seeing a few of the wives on here safely handle a gun might be a good way to start.

My mom was afraid of guns and didn't like shooting them outside because the environment was so uncontrolled in her opinion. I couldn't get her to go to the range because of all the other people. She was embarrassed by her lack of knowledge. I reserved the shooting range here just for me and her. We were able to put on all the safety equipment and set the guns on a table right in front of her. It was much less intimidating to her than using the tailgate of the truck. I have done that for her 2 times now, yesterday being the second. She bought a handgun and practices her commands at home with it. She called me yesterday and told me she has never done anything in her life that made her feel more empowered than learning to use a gun. Plus, she said it is really fun to try to get better at shooting. I am excited for her and feel better for her living on her own now. Baby steps.
