I was in the area so I stopped by to see Brad and Josh (unstuck)at The Rad Jeeper yesterday morning. I had heard they had just finished a ground up restore on a CJ-5 and I wanted to see what it was about. The timing was perfect, they were just getting ready to move it outside and start the next project and this one was finally "done".

It was fun to see an old jeep that had so many new parts. And it really stood out. From the 2 minute story they told me about it is that is belongs to a guy whos buddy had passed away and left him this old jeep. It was kind of personal to him to have it cleaned up and fixed to remember his past friend. So it does have a cool story behind it too.

Brad did mention that they are eye-balls deep it work all the time. He is looking into getting a larger building somewhere in town. In the back waiting for more work were a few FJ's (I understand that stands for Foreign Jeep  ) and a few other cherokees. It was raining pretty hard so I did not venture out for those photos.

On with the pictures...

Engine bay was so clean you could eat off it.

On the side Brad has his own personal crawler he has been slowly working on. But I wanted to take a photo of the crusher corners that are made by The Rad Jeeper. They looked as clean as anything I have seen aftermarket.

Then on my way out Josh gave me a few more photos of the early progress on the CJ. It came into them in rough shape and was a complete tear down. Maybe he can pipe in and give us some more details

once it was down the the frame it went off for sandblasting. That revealed some problems that were patched and reinforced

It was painted by a shop that is close by the Rad Jeepers shop. I thought it came out looking very clean

UNSTUCK

But stuck more often.
Thanks for posting up the pictures Rusted. Looks like you just about covered it all. I'll just include some "Before" pictures:

Lyle borrowed our trailer to haul this bad boy in. This is how it looked when we rolled it off the trailer. Should have went straight to the junk yard, er, Jeep Rest Home.

Already looks better now that it's empty. It was very clear that the body was junk. So the hunt began for a replacement.

Yeah, I was told it only had 10k miles on it. I don't know about that, but I do know it had 30 years of oil caked on it. Nothing a toothbrush can't fix.

The frame, before being sent out for blasting. We replaced the rear cross member as well as did some crack welding and spring hanger repair.

All in all, this was a great project. It was my first frame off restoration. I think it turned out okay. And I have to say, this is one of the funnest Jeeps I have driven in a long time. That old engine really moves and the new RE suspension really makes it drive well.....for a short wheelbase. I look forward to the next one. In the mean time we have a few FJ's that need Vortec 5.3's put in them.

But for now, the next step is getting this thing on the truck heading to Miami, where this one will spend the rest of its days. Must be nice...

Wow, that turned out nice. A lot of work for a 5. They look cool but someone must have really loved it to put that kind of money into it. I can only imagine.

I stopped by to see if the Rad Jeeper had any CJ parts I could put to use and took a few photos. Since my last visit they knocked down a wall, took out a supply closet. Before they had room to work on 2 vehicles at a time, now they can easily keep three projects moving.

Today looked like Toyota day down at the Rad Jeeper, or maybe I should say the Rad Toyoter?? :p

Shop with the wall removed

The "sleeper" Land Cruiser. Rad Jeeper just installed a Chevy 5.3 Vortec engine, along with a th400 transmission (correct me if I am wrong). Josh started it up and this thing sound very good.

And an FJ in for another Chevy 5.3 Vortec swap. I see the Rad Jeeper doing more engine swaps than anyone around. Their engine work always look clean.

And the token Jeep in the shop too. I believe it was getting some new springs.

I don't know who this guy is, but I like him already. Thanks for supporting the U4WDA and for knowing where to get a killer driveline made.

Oh man, I think a 5.3 or 6.0 would be so cool in a 4 door Cruiser.

Now taking reservations for test drives!.........When the owners away, the techs will play!!!:D Or something like that.

It has a 4l60e in it, not a 400.;)
