This what i'm thinkin of propane as well. what the f@##! It is just a bi product. Most refinery's just burn of propane anyways. I remember in the 80's my dad run is oneton for 11 cents a gallon.

I believe we're getting f'n gouged at the pump because diesel trucks are so popular.

I also don't think the average consumer in america takes into account the fact that the goods they buy cost a lot more now then they did in june, due solely to the diesel.

diesel has gone up .70 a gallon since the first week june. :mad2:

James, I asked one of walkers bulk drivers that question the other day. He gave me this explanation. The refinery's only have a certain amount of deisel refining capacity. For that matter total capacity and it has'nt changed since the sixtys because epa restrictions are so tuff no one wants to build new refinerys in the us. Anyway, the deisel refining capacity can't keep up with the demand. ( all of the guys like us who have bought deisel trucks lately ) So the supply is tight and they in turn can charge whatever they want for it.
I hope like shane said this pushs alternate fuels ( hydrogen) its all around us. Biodeisel,we can grow our own. I'd like to see that happen. and put the hurt on the oil companys.

I filled up 24 dollars 95 dodge neon daily driver I fill up once a week
travle about 380-395 miles here and back to work every week.
You could have filled my car five times for five weeks

i filled up my wifes Toyota Prius from empty and it cost me $23 for premium. Commuting back and forth to SLC aiport twice a week and to Hill AFB on the other days, I get 54 MPG out of a twelve gallon tank. But, then I also drive a chevy tahoe that sucks gas and a CJ with a C350 that like the flavor of premium too. I Almost break even. Ok, I'll shut up now!

It doesn't take much to figure out they are gouging us.

Exxon/Mobiles 2nd Quarter Results

"ExxonMobil's net income for the first half of 2005 was a record $15,500 million, up $4,270 million from the first half of 2004. Excluding special items, earnings increased by $4,010 million reflecting improvements in all areas of the business."

ExxonMobil's Chairman Lee R. Raymond commented as follows:

"Compared with last year's second quarter, ExxonMobil's second quarter 2005 earnings excluding special items of $7,840 million increased $2,050 million and are the highest second quarter ever for the Corporation. Including the special charge for the Allapattah lawsuit provision, net income increased $1,850 million."

For Q1 they had a net profit increase of 43%. Gas prices went up nation wide 42%.

It does'nt take a rocket sceintist to know who's makin the money on the gouging. It isnt the gas station owners. Are yoy sure that the numbers you quoted should'nt have been in billions not millions? This is a real sore spot with me. THEY SHOULD AT LEAST DISPENSE KY JELLY AT THE PUMPS WHEN THEY BEND ME OVER! :mad2:

My biggest question is: WHY IN THE HELL IS DIESEL MORE THAN REGULAR GASOLINE??? :mad2: :mad2: I want to find these fat cats and ***** slap'em.

I heard it was easier to pass the cost of onto the customers of the businesses that use the deisel and us as private citizens are taking it in the shorts because we can't pass the cost off onto our customers, becasue we have none.

I just had a thought also about deisel, I have heard (not sure if it is true or not) that deisel fuel is a biproduct from the steps of refining regular gasoline.
If this is the case, is possible that the prices of deisel are also effected be the fact that there is not as much of it produced since it is a biproduct??

Anyone know if this is the case or not?

[quote/ILean]Let's see your Neon tow my trailer. ;)

Yeah trust me I know its weak not only do I feel ridicules driving something that close to the ground but its violet so I feel gay too.

The whole veggie oil is a cool idea but it does have its cons.
I have a hippie friend that has an old international diesel school bus that has done the conversion and said it is great but it is hard to find some fast food joint to give it to you but says chines restaurants will thats not the bad part he said that you need to buy a filter every 8-10 months that runs about 350-bucks he said that he loves it for the cleanliness but still-to much maintenance.

Low-Premium fuel.

The way that it has been explained to me by 4 different old time mechanics for regular fuel cars if you have a chevy 350 or any car between 8:1-9:1 compression ratio you should never use more than mid grade only if you are higher than 9:1 should you go premium if you use anything more than mid grade you are doing what is called pre-detonation fuel is spontaneously combusting before you spark ever happens so not only are you getting you fuel you are hurting you motor according to them.
So maybe that will help some people I guess i don't take it or leave it.

What would be interesting is a thread about how the increased fuel prices will affect our sport. Will you take less trips wheeling in the future?? Will your outings be closer to home?? Are you looking to downsize to a smaller/lighter rig?? Are diesel swaps worth it anymore?? How many will sell their 4x4's and get out of the sport completetly??

I see less and less built 4x4's on the road every day. Just wonder how many are going to say "It's not worth it!!"

Personally, I have been trying to leave the truck parked as much as possible. My wife goes to work early so I can take the car when she gets home. Sharing a diesel Jetta saves us some big $$$$$ over the course of a week. (I figure it costs me $12 a day to drive the truck and about $3 round trip to drive the car. Last week I was able to go 6 days without starting the truck. I even rode my bike to the store once!

I almost never run the Scout on Gas anymore. And yes less trips because of fuel cost to feed the dually. The close trails are nice for not having to use the puller, but they all suck... I was going to do the con next month, I'd have to take a loan for the gas almost to get there and back. I decided to wait until I had the propane installed in the dually instead.

this is my biggest ***** also. the way I have always understood it is diesel is a by-product of the refining of gasoline. SO WTF if it is a by-product why is it .20 more a gallon then premium???????????????????? :mad2: :mad2: :mad2:
Originally crude was refined into kerosene and gasoline was a byproduct of that, then gasoline became popular and crude was refined for gasoline and kerosene (damned near diesel ;) ) was a byproduct of that... then diesel became popular and now it's made on purpose :D

I also heard there is a process that has been found that will turn shale rock into oil... And I also think taping Alaska (keeping enviromental issues in mind) would be a good step to hold us over for a while
I saw a show on Canadian oil shale..... they have more oil in that form than the middle east has in the ground.

Because there are well of 1,000,000 CTD's on the road, plus all the PSD's and Duramax's. Then add to that all the semi's on the road these days....

I'm not very old and even I remember a time where they couldn't hardly GIVE diesel away.

I dont know how true it is but I was listening to "Talk to the Governor" on KSL a few years ago (when Levvitt(sp?) was in office) and they were talking about the shale Utah has...I guess its quite a bit but we haven't been able to touch it cause of the Enviros :mad2:

The US has so many oportunities to become more self reliant its rediculous, we have the Gulf of Mexico (which has HUGE amounts of Petroleum), the Alaska Tundra, Shale in Utah, etc....I am sure there are TONS more but thats a few that could provide our country petroleum for a long itme to come. I agree with Herzog and a few others that ultimately petroleum is not the answer, once they figure out how to effectively put hybrid engines in 3/4T-1T trucks then you will start to see the oil companies squirm, till then they got us by the balls...:p
