....so I was a little disappointed with the first tow of the Yj on the trailer.

I DID notice the trailer/Jeep was back there without looking......... bitchin' air bags and stronger leaf springs?

I DIDN'T get over 18 mpg towing........12 mpg.

I DIDN'T tow over 70 mph...... get some speed rated tires for the trailer?

The engine DID actually have to WORK a little going up small hills....... (northbound 215 to I15 interchange)............. New trans and chip and turbo and $$$$

What's wrong with my truck?

{actually, it did pretty well, just not as well as it's built up to be on the interweb}

air bags on a truck without weight in the bed really won't make a difference. I only put air in my air bags when the camper is on.

of course the engine worked that what its suppose to do, even on a small hill.

and to answer your last question...........................its not a CTD:rofl: :p

Bad question..........:D

Post some pics of you jeep!!!!!!!

Pics???? I didn't take any. I was getting some work done. I'll snap a few PDQ, though. The Jeep did look KEWL on the trailer, though. It got more than a few looks on the freeway.

You have been building this jeep for 800 years now and we still have not seen it.....hummm...why........? -_-

I get 12-14 in my '03 dodge with the auto (usually in the 12's) - pulling my jeep on a flatbed. Usually travel between 70-75.

I don't believe most "mileage claims"

I would get 6-7 with my 7.4 TBI. I figure I get about double the mileage in every scenario - diesel/gas.

I got between 9-10 pulling 2 jeeps on a faltbed. From what I've seen, wind seems to be the biggest variable.

You mean it actually does have to work to pull around 6000 extra lbs.? Don't let the people on the interweb figure this out.

Interesting observation. JUST for experimentation while towing Tacoma's parts crew cab out to Tooelle yesterday evening. (that thing is LONG--BARELY fit on my trailer) On FLAT I-80, I reset the overhead display at 75-78/2200 mph/RPM for about 3 miles or so (very scientific test ). I got 10.3 mpg.

I then reset my speed/RPM to 68-70/1900. I got 11.8. I wonder how it would be if I set it to 63-65 mph? That's a pretty big jump for 300 RPM (but then again, I've only got 3400 or so RPM to work with).

I'm also curious how a taller tire (315 vs. the 285 I'm running now) would affect it. I bet I could just tow faster at the same mileage.

Oh, and just one other observation...... I still want a stick. The auto is fine, but I'd rather shift myself. :D

Well... It got my junk here without the hitch falling off.... heheh

I didn't get that key, either. OOPS!

I did check the bolts on my hitch, though. ;)

:greg: It's unarguable, the Cummins has more low end torque. I have to admit I do like the Cummins powerband better. I think I'll get used to the V8/auto, though (kinda don't have a choice :D).

First get some air in it and the exhaust out....VERY important on the PSD
Second and mild chip or flip chip does wonders for both power and milage.
I like the flip chip because you can get and econ, tow and fun burn....and you can switch on the fly. No upload/download BS. (my chip has 6 econ, tow1, tow2, fun, and stupid:greg: )

As for milage, the guys that say the get 20mpg towing with a PSD are full of $hit. I did once, 3 wheeling at 50mph for about 50 miles....

I do tow at 75-85 but with 315's and 4.10's and about 2500 rpm give or take. I have experimented towing my rig and Carl's. I get the same mileage rather I drive 70 ish at 2000ish r's or 85 at 25-2600 r's. I like keeping would up, though it was hard to get used to, if I do it, I do not need to downshift and I stay in the power band. the 7.3 has a higher powerband than most think. Peak is around 2800 and then it starts to defuel....
I've also noticed my egt's stay much more in check when I let the r's stay up and the turbo do it's job....pulling the hills in od and 2000 r's, not a lot of boost I can spike the egt's, but wound up with the turbo pushing 20lb+ I can keep them under 1200 (I am not intercooled yet;) )
Winter fuel I get about 12 on the average trip, summer 14-15....
But, I am tall and push A LOT of air.

Given what you have, for less than $1000 you should be able to do exhaust, intake and maybe a chip....

Check dieselstop. Call Tymar for the intake, there are a lot of exhaust places, and check with Beans or Swamps for a package deal. I run Beans injectors, very cool helpful guy.

The exhaust has a muffler delete already. I think it has the bigger downpipe, but I'm not 100% sure.

I do like dieselstop.com (kinda like PBB). The search TOTALLY SUCKS and there's a bunch of idiots on there. Gets annoying weeding out the good responses from the bad.

The SD forum is a lot worse then the OBS forums....Us poor guys are nicer to each other:D A lot of the stuff there applys to you 7.3 as well.
The downpipe is a biggy, and the cat;) .
Call and chat with Bean or Dale(Tymar). Both are very cool and willing to talk with you to figure out what is needed and niether will make you feel like you have to have the huge injectors and stupid chips.

Put the big air filter on. (tymar style) and keep your RPMs up when pulling a grade. Don't be afraid of 2800 RPM, that's where it will pull the hardest.

See, evem Hickey says so:p

But be careful once the r's get up there you kinda don't notice picking up speed and soon you are bouncing the needle off the peg:eek: (MPH, not r's.
The ecm will not let you run the rpm too high. After Peak it starts to defuel the injectors and with any load at all it will keep you from building to many r's.
(see the thread in the OBS forums on dstop, we are trying to figure out how to run a 7.3 at 4K:eek: :greg: )
