Game of "B.I.K.E." - beginner version

11/11/13 NEW Trick

Im posting this early because I have a full day.

Bunny Hop
I want the difficulty level of this trick to be somewhat self regulated. Make it difficult for your self. For me it has been a long time since I have really done this but I pulled the large jack stands out and laid a piece of tube on top only to not clear it the first few tries. So Im setting my self goal to go from clearing this 6" tall block of wood to 12" this week. But if you have never tried bunny hopping clear a 2x4 and call it good if you want. For kyle it might be something like a 6' barbwire fence. BUT YOU DO HAVE TO clear an object this will illustrate proper timing of the bunny hop.

Good one Deviant! I found this good video on improving height. I like the way he stacks the 2x4s.

Here is mine. If I get time to redo on a higher one I will. I have skinned up wrists and knees. I went over the handlebars on one of the failed attempts

Maldito, once you get your weight up on the rear wheel, hop forward. Twist the bars forward (opposite a motorcycle throttle) and you should be able to lift the rear tire a bit. It takes practice, but pretty soon you'll be able to hop up a curb.

So I'll want to bring the front up then jump forward while twisting forward on the handle bars? Do I want to torque the front wheel up with the pedals or is there a preferred way to bring the front wheel up?

Yes.

Do I want to torque the front wheel up with the pedals?

No, don't use the pedals to pull the front up. It's a balance of strength pulling the front tire up while shifting your weight back. You can also try lifting both wheels off the ground at the same time. Some people learn that way, then eventually get the timing down to where they can lift the front first, then spring off the back wheel.

WHen you land, you do not want to be slamming the rear wheel. Just touch down gently and use your knees to absorb the impact. It's a tricky one to learn, but SOOOO useful.
