Those microSD cards rock, I recently got one for my Garmin Venture Cx. I need to get a power cable so I can have constant power on the KLR.

I decided to buy a blank card and get the DVD so I get ALL of the maps and so I'm able to use them on the computer.... All together it'll cost about $40 more than one of the preprogrammed cards. :-\

I need to get a power cable so I can have constant power on the KLR.

Did someone tell you otherwise? Most GPS outlets sell blank cards with the GPS :D

Where did you score yours? I've about pulled the trigger on one a half dozen times in the last couple months... but I keep crossing my fingers that the new Magellan Triton's will get good reviews. The only ones on the market so-far (they recalled a bunch :ugh:) are the 300 Series. The cool thing about the new Tritons is that they allow you to put actual National Geographic maps (all scales) on the GPS as the background map. Thats right, finall a non-proprietary map software  This opens the door for aerial photos too  But, so far they have been getting slaughtered in the reveiws, thos that have got them complain about buttons not working, no USB cable available yet... and crappy customer service from Magellan.

I ended up buying mine at Cabelas, I got them to almost match Wal*mart's price.

As far as the card, no one told me anywise. I couldn't get an answer anywhere as to what size card it would recognize. I've been using a 128MB card in it, which is plenty big if you don't have the Garmin topo 2008.... one cool thing is that you can use the GPS as a mass storage device as well :greg:

Yeah I'd heard about the Magellans, but I'd rather have one that works right than have one with actual topo maps. My version of TOPO! won't work with USB units so I would have to buy software again anyway.

btw, I got a 2GB card for $19.99 with free shipping.

What is Walmarts price??

w0w, they came down even more since I bought mine (been a couple months or so)
Walmart online $227 (I'm not linking to it cuz I think walmart should die)

Cabela's is $299 IIRC Walmart was $254 when I bought mine and I got Cabela's down to $265, but they messed up they don't usually match online only stuff.
Where did you score the card?

I got the card from Newegg Looks like it's changed from free shipping to a $3 rebate though.

Sweet! I have a Rino 530 Hcx coming on santa's sleigh.
I bought the 530 Hcx about a month ago from Wal Mart they were 110.00 cheaper than both Sportsmans and Cabelas and still 10.00 cheaper than the 530 from the mentioned sports outlets like Meat said it was hard to get from Wal Mart (I wish they would die as well) but at 110.00 cheaper what can I say. I also picked up a 2GB micro SD (got screwed on that) and was able to load from the west coast up to the Dakotas I had the map resolution on the highest setting, the software is Topo 2008 (Map source) I am still messing with all the gadgetry but so far I really like it Oh and the GPS was 389.00

Santa left me a Vista HCx. It has some major upgrades and improvements over the previous eTrex line  Expandable memory will be a huge plus!

So, that virtual serial port Bobmed was talking about... I'm still at a loss of why I would want to use that?

If you have programs (like NatGeo TOPO! 3.xx) that don't understand USB interface the program he linked to connects to your USB GPS and makes a pretend serial port so the older map software can connect to your GPS.
