help me brainstorm what to get for my next vehicle

I got to drive taco man's v8 4runner. That thing is a rocket. I think a tacoma would suit me better, but if I found a good deal on a v8 4runner I'd jump on it.

Well, I wanted a 5 speed in the 1st gen so I could control my RPMs and shifts. The auto in the 1st gens is fine, but the 3.4Ls feel peppy with a stick in the 1st gen.

I tried driving the 6 speed 2nd gen and I didn't bond with it. I don't know what it was. I felt like I had to rev it quite a bit to get some power out of it. The auto just feels so much smoother on the 2nd gens. The 6 speed wasn't nearly as sporty or peppy as I imagined. It felt like the truck weighed twice as much. Maybe I'm too used to driving my miata, but it didn't give me that fizzy feeling that James May is always talking about.

That was a fun truck. Find me an IFS one and I'm all over it. That guy in Santa Cruz won't call me back.

they're not on VWs site, which means I can't get one. It seems like the perfect vehicle, assuming it can handle some mild offroad.

So far I've driven 4 vehicles I really like.

2012 doublecab tacoma. Very expensive

2001-2006 momtero. Hard to find in good shape

1st gen 4runner with 3.4L swap. Love it. Tough to find.

2003 v8 4runner. Expensive, not tons of cargo room. Power was awesome.

DOesn't have to be a 2012. I prefer the headlights in the 2012 and newer, but I'd be ok with an '05+ as long as it had less than 50k miles. A lot of trucks with 120k are priced around $22-24k. At that price, I'd rather pay another $10k and get a new one.

i just got back from driving a crv that had been driven within an inch of its life, with only 150k. That thing had every problem imagineable. They're a bit too small for my needs, but I still think they're cool cars for the money.

I see the 2nd gen DC as the one you would keep the longest out of those options.

I agree, unless I find a montero for a crazy cheap price and it happens to be dead reliable. Chances of that aren't great. I would love being the only owner of a 2nd gen DC, knowing all the maintenance that's been done to it.

I wish I could find a dealer that would give me a good price for paying with cash rather than loans, but that's how they make their money these days. I guess that's kind of like trying to find a banker that doesn't want me to get a credit card.

My boss bought two brand new 2013 F-350 powerstrokes with cash for the company, and they only discounted each one $2,500.
