allright, we've narrowed it down to a 2009 or newer Corolla. Keep your eyes peeled for me and let me know if you see any for sale.

A Corolla? One of the most boring of all vehicles on the road since the 90's. Uninspiring, bland, boring.... Grandma car. :)

True, but they're great cars. They're not exciting, and they're nothign to brag about, but my wife doesn't drive for fun. It's a tool for her, not a recreational item. We drove a ton of cars and it's been her favorite so far.

I've never had a car loan and I never intend on having one. In our budget of $12k or lower, there's nothing that can touch it in terms of mpg (28-34), safety (5 stars all around), and reliability.

Great cars. May not be inspiring, but then again its not meant to be either.

Its a affordable, commuter car that really does get great mpg.

My ex had one and it really was a great car.

Whiplash! Last I knew you had decided on a CRV. I assume that you also drove an Altima and a Sentra, both really good and great mpg. Rented many Altimas and owned a Sentra.

We had a Corolla (Prizm) a few years ago and really liked it.

I was going to ask what tipped you toward CRV over Rav4 but I guess that's moot now. We are leaning toward the Rav4 (drove one today).

We looked for a Crv for s few weeks, but everything in our price range was beat or high miles
My mechanic recommended the 2005 Crv over the rav, even though the rav is great too.

My wife likes small cars and she would rather have a corolla than a Crv.

I would be much more inclined to go with a Mitsubishi Endeavor than a CRV. The Endeavor is a very underrated vehicle and you are not paying a premium for a the Honda name brand.

Did your mechanic say anything about the 2009 with V6?

Mine too, but she also wants awd (so do I).

I didn't ask about the 2009 rav specifically, but he said they're good cars. He just recommended the crv over the raven for some reason.

I like the idea of awd, but the Crv doesn't have the moat amazing awd system. Its a decent.system, but it takes almost a full second to engage. By that time, its usually too late. Id rather have snow tires on a fwd car with vss

get me the details and I"ll look into it. We've spent over 50 hours driving around from dealership to dealership. We both work, so we don't have much time. So we pretty much just go to a dealership once we're sure it's something we'd buy.

we are FINALLY done with our search. We found a clean, hi-mileage Accord that has been babied. It'll be a great car for her. Thanks for the ideas and the help everyone. I swear I should be a used car salesman now, with all the info I've learned from this thread and driving so many vehicles.

I've been halfway tempted to offer up my 99 Civic Ex since my daughter shows no interest in getting her license. But naw... she will eventually and it costs money, time, and aggravation to buy and sell vehicles. But then, you are well aware of that, aren't you Steve?

oh man, I'm at my witt's end. I've never spent so much time, effort, and energy looking for a car. It's downright exhausting. I am so glad it's over. In fact, this process has been such a pain that I'm committed to keeping my truck and continuing to dump whatever money into it that it needs.
