Hey, I destroyed my crappy stock stearing this weekend at the delta charity rock crawl. Do any of you guys know who makes a good kit, or what kinds of things i need to keep in mind if I fab my own set. Any help would be great

I used the All-Pro set up, with FJ80 rod ends and never had any issues.

Also on your door, take off the inner panel and I'll bet you find your window track is caved in to match the door (mine always tweaked the track). A little straightening should get it working good as new again, plus you can beat the sheet metal out easier from the inside.

Don't fab your own stuff. Its dangerous. Buy some from Marlin, or if you want some awesome but expensive ones that go behind the axle and actually have the correct steering geometry, check out 4x4 labs.

Yea, I'm thinking that I'm gonna buy the stearing arms from trail gear, and make some tie rods at work. You guys know if 6061 1" solid aluminum will work for the tie rods or do I need to go bigger? I've heard a lot of buzz about aluminum tie rods and am curious to try some out

The Tera steering links are 6061, not solid but quite a bit larger than 1". (1.5"-ish?) They work OK but do bend fairly regularly if you hit them on a rock. I wouldn't use 1" 6061 even though you'll be high-steer. If you step up to a harder grade of AL like 7075 that's cool, or just use thick-ish DOM.

Post some pics of the break. Depending on your break high steer may not solve all of your steering issues.

It'll fix most of 'em. :D He bent at minimum the stock horseshoe steering arm, and possibly the passenger side arm as well. :greg:

Yea, I took a close look at it today to get a better idea of what all is wrong with it. I looks like just the tie rod is bent most of the problem is that the joint on the drag link is broken. It has almost 2 1/2 inches of slop in \ it. I'ts just hanging by a thread. in fact I think the only thing holding it together is the big ball of grease on the out side of it. Anyway, I think I'm just going to by the full trail master kit and run that. Can you get a stearing box from any of the ifs 4 runners from around that time?
