HITR Motorcycle Trip (tentatively May 13-15)

No offense intended, but this isn't a trail you'd want to cut your riding teeth on. I'm a half decent rider and I'm scared to ride HITR. :ugh:
Greg is right on for this one. Ward Canyon is like riding your sidewalk compared to HITR.

Caleb, 1:08 into the movie at the Step is where you broke your foot and where I had to exchange my nice comfortable air-conditioned ride for your big heavy Swedish ride. The Step is much bigger in real life than the video shows.

Wow, and then watching that group of 30 or so ATV's coming off of the step and heading up the Dugway.

The Chute was really cool too.

Here was our trip from last spring.

That video is great, makes me think we should have a couple helmet cameras for the ride! I have a hard drive camcorder that I'd consider bringing, but it was spendy and my wife would KILL me if I destroyed it by taking it motorcycling. :D

I would like to get a good helmet cam, maybe this is the excuse I need :D

Actually, it was broke long before that, that was just my final wreck when I'd had enough and where I toasted my leg :D

This trail is no picnic. It still has me spooked, but I'm determined to conquer this trail on a bike :D

This is why I wouldn't want to plan more than an in and out. I think if we are making incredible time and every one is up for it, there are options to divert a little. I agree with Greg, it says a lot coming from a skilled rider that's done the trail with only bikes.

I was planning on driving in a few miles to camp, so we wouldn't be leaving from the airport...but that will only save an hour (tops!) of riding time.

I did confirm with my buddy from work that he's in. So right now we have (tentatively):

Caleb
Greg
Noah
Russ
Paul

It's turning out to be a good group so far. Should be a fun trip!

If nothing gets in the way of me coming on this trip, you can add the infamous Alan Peterson to the list of attendee's. AP and I were talking at dinner tonight about the trip and we were wondering if the plan was to ride HITR on Friday or Saturday. We also talked about upper Moki Canyon being a ride for the day we don't do HITR.

Saturday. Right now I'm planning on driving down on Friday, running the trail on Saturday and driving home on Sunday. It'd be cool to have you (guys) along

I've always wanted to do this one... if you guys have room for one more.

I don't think it's a problem, what are you riding? Sounds like most of us will be on well build 450's. I would imagine the pace will be somewhat brisk, but it's hard to say.

I remember that you rode, but forgot what you were on! HITR will be interesting on dual sports, I think it will be fairly challenging.

I have my choice between KTM 300xc or 690... sounds like the total distance will dictate bike choice. I do have a large desert tank for the 300.

Brisk is good.

The 300 would be a much more enjoyable bike for that ride IMO. With a desert tank, the mileage should not be a problem. Total in and out will be no more than 75 miles.

Cool. I prefer the 300xc on anything but the highway (and Greg did say dual sport). With the desert tank I can go 100 miles easy.

For sure the 300 would be the better choice. It's doable on the bigger bikes, especially for a competent rider, but a lighter bike would definitely be more enjoyable no matter the rider :D
