Well, looks like Im in Pheonix all that week until the 23rd, so I'll be a no go on this trip. Let me know if the dates change at all. If not, I will hopefully be able to catch the next one with you guys. Have an awesome time guys!! I'll look forward to the trip report when you get back.

Great, I'm glad you're coming Cody. That means I won't be the only tacoma on the trail. You can't convince coco to drive his runner?

Scott, how are you doing on "the undaunted?" I'm on page 134. The book is really starting to pick up the pace now. The first three chapters were tough for me to get through, but I try to read one or two chapters a night and it's quite enjoyable. Anyone else trying to read it before this trip?

My wife and I have read it. But that was when it first came out. Lund is not my favorite, but I did like the history.
He try's to hard to make it "romantic". But that's what sells. I find myself skipping sections just to get back to the parts I like. I don't do that with other Authors. Good book all the same.

I am going through the jeep to get reddy and found a bad u joint in the front DL. That was the vibes. Changing over tires tomorrow.

I have fixed all my driveline vibes, completed my storage and cooking area, mounted and bead balanced my 33's, and did some more fender trimming. I am getting excited for this trip.
On a side note. This will be during my 16 yr. anniversary. We ran the Hole in the Rock Road (west side) in my brand new '95 Toyota truck on our honeymoon, 16 yrs. ago. It will be cool to finally see the other side. But this time in a better equipt Jeep.

I'm glad I'm not the only one getting my rig in shape before the trip. I'm trying to get all the bugs worked out a week or two before the trip.

Way to make some great progress on the tubbing - I would like to have stopped by, but my day filled up too fast. How did that wind treat you today Steve?

I finally got my 33's on this week as well - Sorry about the crappy pics; I'd better head to the mall and take some better posers:D (Hopefully I'll get some great pics on the trail!)

Wow Spencer, that's really coming along. Great decision with the K2's. I freaking love those tires. And the bull bar looks great too. The wind was going pretty good today. We get it bad here in Lehi, it shakes the house sometimes.

Thanks for the compliments! I'm pretty excited about the changes in the last year or so. I figure the 255/85's will be the biggest I'll go (don't expect to SAS or tub at this point), and they go on with a real short lift and hopefully no rubbing (fingers crossed). I honestly don't know if I'll be able to re-gear before the trip, but I won't be pulling a trailer so I'm okay with that. Gears, skidplates, and whatever else is next, whenever I can

I haven't had a chance to start reading yet.. I'm mid rear axle swap and that axle I bought is garbage so I'm trying to figure out what to do. I'm going to the shop to start swapping out the fuel tank and decide what to do on the axle.

Can anyone tell me if there is a hike that leads to The water? I wouldn't mind taking a dip in the lake.

To hike from the end of the 4x4 route proper to the lake is about 3 hours each way and involves quite a bit of bushwacking, details and pics of the hike here:

You can legally access the lake on foot via the Rincon Road however its a pretty gnarly drop down off the mesa to the lake level, going down wouldn't take more than an hour or two but up would be double that. I'm not aware of any additional lake access?

i would like to but i dont have a rig like that yet. just have my semi stock jeep grand cherokee and still building up my cj7 spring edition. i need new front floor pans as they have some holes. ive bought a motor and need to get it in the vehicle. but first things first i have to cut a block lift off the jeep as its welded to the body and frame. its just taking time to cut each block in half.

I found a possible side trip for the way back. Exchanges a 20 min/ 20 mile segment of highway for a ~3 hr/70 mile back road run...

I found this route here ... http://www.expeditionutah.com/featured-reports/capitol-reef-winter-09-greg/
below the photo for Oyler Mine, about 2/3 of the way down the page

with the following quote.

"This was probably some of the most driving fun I had on this trip… hell, this was the most fun I’ve had driving offroad in a long time. It was the type of desert driving I think everyone wants to try. We were in sandy washes, popping in and out of a dried up riverbed, running alongside massive cliffs."
