What did you do?

What do you wish you had done?

I am getting married next year (end of June) and I want to get the Honeymoon all planned now, save me some head ache later.

I have been looking at Carnival cruisers, there is a 7 day Mexican Riviera Cruise... looks like alot of fun, has some diving excursions, etc.

The other option is going to one place for a week or so, I am not against this, but I am willing to pay the premium of a cruise just so I don't have to do as much planning, etc.

What say the masses? :greg:

My Bro-in-law just got married, and went on a cruise for his honeymoon. Liked it a lot, and would recommend it to others.

I went to Zion Nat'l Park--that was stupid. (end of June, in So. UT.....)

Went to San Francisco for 5 days in early August. It was a real good time.

The best advice I ever had was to go someplace nice and 'affordable' (read cheap) for the honeymoon, and save the nice, 'exotic' trip for an anniversary . . . when you will likely enjoy it more.

Do whatever pleases you both, but try not to tie yourself down to an itinerary. Just go with the flow... as they say.

i went on a cruise to the carabbian, dang good times man. Imo thats the way to do, all your food is taken care of and stuff like that. We also went scuba diving in Cozumel, one of the coolest things Ive ever done. But like Hickey said, dont tie your self down to a busy itinerary, just kick it and enjoy yourself.

Yep, what he said...we went to Hawaii for 10 days and didn't have a single thing planned when we arrived. As we felt like doing something we did it. I loved Hawaii and plan to go back real soon. Something that would be a little more exotic, but not a lot more coin is a trip to Fiji. We plan to visit there in prolly the next year. FWIW, a cruise is prolly one of the cheaper options (depending of course). To give you an idea we spent a little over $8K on our trip to Hawaii, like I said though, whatever we wanted to do we did it, no matter the cost.

I went to Durango Colorado for a couple of weeks and stayed at a Bed and Breakfast we took the Jeep and went to all those old Mining towns over by Silverton and also drove all over the Durango Area. It was a lot of fun and I would recommend it to anyone

We went to Bryce, Zions, and Grand Canyon. We took about 10 days, and stayed in motel/hotels. We always ate at the lodges, great food in them nat. parks. We didn't have any set plans, so we did whatever we wanted, and got home when it felt like time to get home.

We just did a second honeymoon kinda thing. Booked an ocean view room on Waikiki, and bought the tickets, but nothing else in advance. It was the best trip we've ever done. You can watch the weather the night before, then plan your next day accordingly. One day it rained, so we did the submarine excursion on that day, rented Harley's a couple days, just lounged on the beach a bunch, ect.

Normally, a phone call to the front desk, and 24 hours notice will get you into anything you want. I did rent a car the entire time. If I did it again, I think I'd just rent it by the day from the motel. By the time you add up daily rental charges, plus the $15 a day to park it, it gets real pricey and we really didn't use it that much.

Amy and I spent our honeymoon in Telluride, CO. Not what you would call an exotic honeymoon (like Italy or something like that), but we had a blast and I wouldn't have wanted to do it any other way! Tons of things to do, like hiking, 4-wheeling, horse-back riding... top of the line resturants and great locals.

Here are some pics for fun:

My sister and brother in law did Hawaii for their honeymoon (and they were married on the beaches of Maui.) They loved it and had a great time, so I would guess that they would recommend that!

We wet a month after the wedding. Spent a couple day in Mesa Verda, then the 4th of July in Durango. Stayed in a 100+ year old hotel. Very cool plae, wathed fireworks from the deck with wine and cheesecake ;)
Went from there to Silverton, Oray, and then Telluride. Took 10 days and just kept the plan loose. We had a great time. We just did what we wanted when we wanted.

I would go to costa rica. Airfair is pretty cheap, the exchange is favorable, lots of beaches, and beautiful mountains to explore. Less crowds and less tourist based.

I went on a cruise last year and it was a good time. I gained 20 lbs (literally) and you can't beat the price for what you get, but I'm more of an explorer--I like to get off the beaten path and see different places so for a 'once in a lifetime' trip like a honeymoon I would go someplace cool like costa rica or chile--go see maccu piccu or something.

If you or your future wife haven't been on a cruise before, a seven day cruise might be tooo long. The cruise line company will do its best to keep you busy and having fun, but I just didn't like being stuck on a cruise ship for that long. All the cruises I have been on, was with the family, though.

That was a badass honeymoon! I would not have done it any other way.
I would say ask your future wife to be. Maybe she has some good ideas as to what the two of you can do. Just remember, putting your whole honeymoon on a credit card is a really bad idea, unless you have a very good income and can pay it off right away. I would have to agree to make your first aniversary the awesome one. I think that it give the two of your more time to be together and figure out what the two of you would really like to do. :D
Congrats again on the engagment!!!

My wife and I go on a trip every year for our anniversary (almost 16 years now) and leave the kids and the rest of the world behind. We have camped in the deserts and mountains, Las Vages, Denver, Cruse, Moab, west coast, and more. Loved every trip, but as it looks like you are doing, do your home work and don't over book your self. When we cruised I was almost let down, I was expecting more adventure, but it was more of a relax and be show-en kinda thing. That was all good and we are aiming for a 2nd cruise this year, I just had to adjust my thinking.
