How bad is it ?

How bad is it for you exhaust to touch your oil pan. I know heating up your oil probably wont give you better performance but is it that big of a deal? I have a 89 chomanche and the exhaust rest on the oil pan. Any insight would be much appreciated.

If at all possible I would try to bend it or bang it away just a bit just for noise vibration.

Move it away from the pan. Factory it shouldn't be touching it, so it makes no sense to have it that way now

And it gets really bad when the exhaust finally wears a hole in the oil pan.

It's a very bad thing.

Avoid it at all costs.

Honestly it is not that big of a deal. Ideally you want to keep your oil as cool as possible, but your exhaust pipe touching your oil pan is nothing compared to what your oil goes through while running through your engine.

Moving it would be the best idea, but if you don't do it right away, it probably wont be the end of the world.

My bosses exhaust was touching the tranny pan on his turbo 400. That lasted a couple months before the tranny died. Engines are generally more expensive than trannies. Don't risk it. Heat Kills.
