So the Dana 80 post Von made got me thinking about it. He says that's it not all that nuts to have $15k in axles. I think it's a little high for most people, even the buggied-out nutjobs out there. :D

To be clear-- I know you can spend that much pretty easily, but I'm just curious what the average is out here. I think RME has a decent amount of people on it w/"hardcore" rigs, so let's hear it. :D

Personally, I'm at... about $2100 right now, but I'm also just running standard ol' 60/14bolts, with nothing special except the disc conversion. So let's add another... $2500 to pimp the front end (alloys, slugs, ARB, knuckles), and... $200 for the rear (not much you can do to the 14 bolt.... ), and that's still under $5k.

I really don't think anyone can do their locked one ton axles any cheaper than this?

That's not including brake pads, calipers, etc. Tough to duplicate for that price. I'd estimate about $3500-4000 to duplicate? I collected stuff over a couple years to do that. Bought stuff that was on sale, helped people out along the way who then helped me, etc.

I love the selectable locker in the front. Like/dislike the spool in the 14 bolt. It's totally reliable, but kind of hard to maneuver at times. I never worry about it breaking, but I do b!tch about it at times while I have to back up 3-4 times to position myself on the line I want.

After all, the cool thing to do is brag about how much you did not spend on your components. ;)

I think it's safe to say that there are atleast a handful of guys in Utah (not neccessarily posters on RME) that are running custom Dynatrac, Teraflex, Spidertrax, or other custom axles. On top of that, these same guys could have custom shafts and joints (300M, Bobby Long D60 birf sets, or 40 spline units).

While these axles are not the norm here on RME (especially within the frequent "posters"), they're out there. Now will they admit to what they've spent? Maybe, but probably not.

Will they show up in your poll? Maybe, but probably not.

I think you might be right, Von!! :rofl: RME is like the.. anti-bling board or something. Heck, Carl was just telling me how Tacomafied his current project is-- no money in it LOL

And UT is kind of on the down-low... how many comp guys are from here, how much cash is tied up in the rigs in the shops here????? I know BHR has got some... above-average rigs in there, and thats ONE of the shops along the Wasatch Front. :D


Marc--- yeah, that's a pretty sweet price, as much as it is (isn't?? :D). I'd say you're at least at $4k to replicate that setup. You got some pretty good deals along the way there. :D

I know there's a guy in Tooele w/ProRocks under an FJ60, at least, they used to be. And Aaron Clough's buggy is out there. :D It has nice aaaaaaxxxllleeeeess

That wouldn't be hard for the 14 bolt/plow. The 60 would be pretty tough, though. I've even left out a few things, bearings, seals and such. Those prices are total estimates. I could be off a few hundred as well.

I need to reset my poll. I should be over the $2500 mark. I set it just below there.



Oh, and why are you buying knuckles? How many have you seen broken?

Gears, lockers, cromo shafts, FF rear, hi-steer, etc. Worth every penny for my circumstance.

The front on the other hand... custom built Tera CRD60, ARB, 5.13 gears, TeraFlex diff cover, chromo-shafts, Dodge king-pin knuckles, 35 spline outers, Warn premium hubs, etc. Yeah... I'm just not going to add that one up. :-\

I won't be. I was just thinking of a relatively built 60. :D IF I break one, then I'll get new ones. Probably used stockers. :rofl:

My cousin and I broke a 60 knuckle once... but we also broke the truck in half.... plowed into a submerged light pylon under the snow. :eek: Frame cracked at a body mount and that was all she wrote.

I haven't spent any on mine yet, I have custom 9" that were in the Jeep when I bought it. I will be spending money on them this winter though and I am afraid of what it will cost. I currently have 31 spline that I broke in the front so I am trying to decide on going with 4340 31 spline or stepping up to 35 spline and doubtfully breaking them. What I broke was just an old Spicer that was 31 spline on the inner part and 19 spline at the outer. It broke at the 19 spline side of course. I have picks on my Rubicon trip report.

I am only the 2nd person to hit $5K on the poll. Weird.

I am a cheap tight bastid when it comes to parts, but I have shelled out plenty of coin mixed in with horse trading and labor. There is no way I have less than $5k in mine.
