The only artificial one I've had much success with is a Rapala ice jig. I seem to catch the most fish on earth worms or meal worms, sometimes power bait works but it's hit and miss.Oh yes! I can't wait! I just ordered some new jigs for this year, speaking of, what is everyone's favorite lure or tackle for ice fishing?
Oh man are we there yet?!
Ice shelters are a must, and make it so much more enjoyable.
...if the boat isn’t coming, not exactly easy with ice...
I’m a tube jig guy, year round. The size and color changes but 2.5-4” white seems to by my most used tool. Always tip with worm or shrimp but really prefer frozen chub meat.Oh yes! I can't wait! Looking for an apprentice ice fisher?
I’ve not been ice fishing in 3 decades. My dad has a nice little fishing boat and pretty much has no interest in fishing if the boat isn’t coming, not exactly easy with ice. I’d love to get out and give it a modern try.
My brother’s ice fishing-specific fish finder is crazy. You can see your jig dropping and watch fish come off the bottom up to it. He seriously probably catches 70% of his fish that way, especially perchFor sure! It’s a great time and things have definitely come a long ways in the last several years 😎

I sit in the tent if it’s cold and windy. Almost every trip I’ve been on I end up outside for a while tooBig part of fishing to me is to be outside. Seems like you loose that if you sit in a little tent all day.
I haven’t been able to find perch there through the ice for a couple years but the trout are way nicer than I’ve caught in years prior. The elk are always there in the winter, it’s quite a site to see.I decided to try my luck at Rockport yesterday. I found the ice to be inconsistent on depth. It was 2.5 inches of clear with 1.5 inches of frozen slush in the areas where there was no snow. I tried a couple of spots where there was snow and there was only about one inch of ice. I did try my luck by staying only on the areas with no snow. Managed some nice trout but couldn't find the perch. Wandering around looking for them was not an option. Maybe next weekend the ice will get thicker. If you want to take your kids to see some elk there were a bunch of them in the fields below the dam.
