How about a private access forum that the mods have to give us access to only after we have been on the board for x amount of time and we request access. In this place, we could vent with a little more freedom....not free reign, just able to call someone a dumba$$ when they are!!
That way it is not entirely public, and if you don't want to be there, you don't have to be. You can leave at any time. If you are too thin skinned to handle it, get out....
That way we could all vent as needed in a semi-private forum. This would make the rest of the board more friendly....threads could be moved to the "Vent" if/when they get out of hand....Newbies would not have to be exposed to our arguments and meaner sides!!
Just an idea, what do you think?

You guys have mean sides??? :confused: ;)

I think you've come up with a rather positive solution rather than complaining that the forum is mean or dumb... :rolleyes:

Hummm... so rather than a 'newbie friendly' place, it would be more of an 'old timer' place? What would the qualifying time on RME be? Or would it be time or attitude? I think it would be hard to do with maintaining a balance. Intresting idea though...

Not really a time or post minimum....just something that is not open to the really newbies....More to keep the thn skinned away from "attacks". You have to want to be there, to be there. That way you have no room to cry when you get slammed. It stops "us" from perpetuating a negitive image on the board, yet allows us to express our selves....
Not a whole lot to manage except to give access when it is ask for....I don't foresee a reason to deny access, if they can't take the heat, leave, or don't ask for access. I guess it is just more a way to shelter the surfers and newbies from "our" debates. Seems like a win win situation. :greg:

I'll mull it over. I have a couple problems with it, but I'll see if there's a way to resolve them.

I kind of like the idea. It does suck that when someone is being a moron that we have to be nice. Being able to have a place that we can relax and take a few hits of bashing and not get all paintied up. Kind of like locking James and me up in a room all by our selves................ :eek: :D

I also think that there are some that just don't belong in there and there are some that should never come out. ;)

We have that on a gaming forum that I'm on, it's nice to have a secluded place.

The way we work it there is you have to a) be a member for 45 days, b) be an active member, c) be sponsored after the 45 days and the "full" members can voice their opinion and vote.

PS You have to be a donating member :D Or even a seperate $5 or $10 bucks a year to get in. Think of the $$$$ I know would pay just to relieve the bite marks on my togue ;)

But, seriousely this would stop the people that just wanted to get in to be an a$$.

:rofl: Make money on it! That's a good idea!

The problems I see are that stuff could spill over from this private forum. Nasty feelings, backbiting, etc. If you rant on someone who later becomes a member of the private forum, it would do nothing but cause problems for those 2 people in the future. I really don't know that I want to promote that, after all the effort that I've made to keep this a family/work friendly place.

ok,

how about a "Senior Member" forum that (as stated above) only allows members that are 1) paying members, 2) have to be an active member for the last year, 3) active means that they are involved with the board and show active post counts etc. There are still rules to follow, but they are a little less "enforced". I will mod that forum... ;)

The one I speak of isn't used to rip on people (well some that TRULY deserve it... think popo) it's more a place to talk about things that you don't want openly available on the internet, because as I'm sure you know Greg, everything in every open forum here is readily available to ANYONE who can type in google or any other search engine.

Think of it as an open to the family PM.
