If someone handed you $20k that you HAD to spend on 4x4 related stuff...

I'd get some new tires for the Burb, then call Kurt for some ARB stuff (RTT, front locker), off to Kirkham's for some interior gear, and then off for a tour of North America. Yee ha. Done.

I'll exclude 20k in gasoline but truth be told that's the first thing I'd spend it on while I'm touring North America in the CRV :D

If I had to spend it on something 4x4 related I would put it into the Ford.

-New Fourwheel or Phoenix Camper with an Espar diesel powered heater/furnace all on top of an all aluminum Hillboro flatbed..... Well that spends it pretty quick!

or

-Rebuild a 7.3 using the turbo block/rods/pistons, balance the rotating assembly, sleeving all 8 cylinders and add ARP head studs.
-ATS Aurora 3000 wastegated turbo with homebrew intercooler.
-Moose pump/injector pump
-ARB's front and rear with 35spline inners/outers/hubs
-Steering setup upgraded to the point it can be considered powerful
-Buckstop or super rare ARB front bumper.
-Warn 16.5.... Ohhh baby!
-Custom leaf springs to raise the front and loose the stock 4" blocks

Crap blew the budget again

I'd do what I was dreaming for my '86. Find the cleanest 1st gen 4Runner around, add custom coilover long-travel IFS arms in front, 4-link rear, motor swap to a 7M or turbo'd 3rz, twin cases, arb lockers, porsche CVs.

That's probably a little over budget, but if I have any extra I'd pay Kurt to slap it together in 24 hours. :)

I would link my '97 4Runner front and rear. Front diamond, HP elocker, 5:29's, dual case's, 37's, flatbelly.

Pretty much ala Eric B.

Almost what I would do, but different motor swap which would be the most spending on the rig.

for the xj: built 60 front, torq 14 rear, tires/beadlocks, car-hauler and the rest would be spent on lots and lots of steel. or i'd pay off my new ram (it's a 4x4 so it counts) and do all that stuff over time

I would either spend a few grand of it putting my LJ on a diet and making it lighter, then maybe ten more grand on a V8 swap, and the rest on gas to go on trips.

Or...

Sell my LJ, take that money plus the $20K and buy a 2012 JKU and get it rolling on 35's with good quality components. Then wish I had gas money to use it...

I would look for a 1970 to a 1972 Chevy Blazer. Rebuild what needed to be, small lift, smaller tires, and emjoy it. I love older Chevy's. It would end up being my baby's rig when she gets a little older.
