I'm in trouble...

I know it's kind of a POS axle, but it's better than what I have and it has matching gears (4.56's), a locker, pinion conversion, disks (upgrade from my drums), calipers, wheel spacers and already setup for ZJ coils and shocks.

Got it onthe cheap--I'm glad there is no resale in built-to-purpose axles that aren't 60's.

Now I just need to do the long arms and I'll be totally content with my weekend warrior POS camping rig.

its' no 60 so flame on ;) ;)

oh, it's an 8.8 in all it's glory

you were probably blinded by the radiating greatness that surrounds such a beast. it's hard to see through that

I hear you can replace the c-clips by twisting those fuzzy pipe cleaners around the shaft.

What's wrong with an 8.8? They've got beefy shafts, disk brakes, beefy r&p... what's not to like? It has a very high success rate with tires up to 40". The only negatives are thinner tubes and the tubes can twist in the center section on a leaf-sprung vehicle with a traction bar. I have one and the only way I'll ever upgrade is when I get a D60 front and need something to match the width, and the replacement will be a beefed up D60 or shaved 14b. My two cents, anyways...

have you seen the wheel bearings? After I saw how they are (ride right on the shaft instead of a race) that really turned me off. However I will likely still put one of the two I have in my TJ as a quick upgrade, but it won't be a permanent solution.

don't forget the supreme awesomeness of c-clips ;)

I'm pretty stoked about it. It probably won't break given my junk is only on 35's.

They have kit that will do away withthe C-clips. The 8.8 has bigger shafts than a D44. WayneXJ used one for about 4 years and beat the tar out of it. He ran 35" MTRs Locked. It never gave him a bit of trouble.

c-clip eliminator This one fits ford 8.8 7.5 and GM 10 Bolt (what does that say about axle dia.?

it says nothing at all. you act as if anybody in the world has ever referenced to ford 7.5 or gm 10 bolt shafts being "beefy", and samurai guys don't count.

there are a number of people who would rather run a d44 or a toyota 8".
i just happen to be one of those people, sorry but why have c-clips when there are other axles that don't?

yeah i beat on my rig (bouncing, jumping, rolling) and have d44s f/r with 36" iroks and have had no axle breakage. i even have the "weaker" 5.38 gears and totally stock shafts with a spool in the rear. do i deserve a cookie? :D

Technically You don't need C Clip eliminators on an axle with Rear Disks, the calipers hold the axle in. though it does give you a wierd feeling when you turn right or left and it applies the brakes at least on one side.

-> All I was saying is that they're all the same shaft dia.
