Is the gas tank in the tub? Or did you cut a hole in the tub and raise the tank?

Oh, yeah, looks good! :D

I moved the 14 bolt back quite a ways (XJ spring). If I'd have kept the tank in the stock location, I think I might have had 1" of uptravel. I cut a hole and raised the tank. I still need to build a cover and reconfigure my back seat. (Search H8Monday's YJ on PBB)

Very cool  Its all down hill from here. So no slowing down. Otherwise it will be an up hill deal again to get motivated to get it on the trail.

Very cool... I'd like to do something similar on my Rubicon to stretch it, but I don't want to lose the rear seat. I was thinking about making a large tank that fits inside the entire tub, but only about 2" tall and mount the seat above it - then I wouldnt' have to cut the tub. But I like your way... Got any close up pics?

The rear seat is a requirement for me. The problem with a 2" tank would be keeping fuel at the pickup (at least, that's what I think). I don't have any close up pics, but I could take some. (Probably later today?) I just built a 'cradle' out of tube and used some fuel tank straps from an old Buick to secure the tank.

The seat will end up being about 1 1/2-2" higher than stock and securely fastened to the cage structure. For who will be sitting back there (small kids), it'll be fine.

That's my only thought to... But I was thinking if it's a shallow tank, then the fuel can't move too far... But eventually it would move away from the pickup, if you were almost empty. But I still like your way better. Then I wouldn't have to design a tank and worry about running out of fuel on a steep incline.

Did you move your rear spring hangers back? I knew XY springs were long, but not THAT long.

And Wayne's not the only one who's interested in how you did your gas tank. I've been wanting to do that too, but I can't lose my backseat. I've thought about putting a fuel cell behind the seat like 1993yj, but I can't afford to lose storage space either. How did you make your cradle? Pretty simple or a pain in the butt?

Oh, and TECH! Mods, please moooooooooove. :greg:

Yes, actually I added those frame extensions when that YJ was mine. I'm sure Marc can get you the exact measurements but if I remember they are 5" extensions which moved the hanger back 8". The XJ springs are about 10" longer than YJ springs (I think).

I haven't yet......... Any good ideas?? :D

Current thinking: I had to run some tube to mount my front seats on. I'm thinking of running two other pieces of tube towards the rear where I'll tie those into the rear cages reinforcement to the frame (or possibly towards the frame itself?---I'll need to consult with one of the resident benders on the board regarding this as I don't have the knowledge or the tools to do such). I'll build a crossmember type thing for the front of the stock Wrangler seat and steal from the stock design for the rear 'fold-n-tumble' utilizing tabs mounted where I need them.

(and this wasn't meant to be a tech thread.....just a chit-chat announcement)

The Willys or the OCNORB?

The Willys first, the OCNORB is still up in the air. I don't want to do it until I can go all out and do it right once. (If I don't sell it first.....^)

It is good to see yours out and about!

As soon as the temps get up where I need them (over 55 deg) I can start painting the frame and bottom of the tub.

Marc,

In looking at your site I noticed that the rims look to be the stock back spacing. I just put some new centers on some H1 wheels. They turned out very sweet. If this is something you would like to look at in the future, let me know.

You're right, totally stock H1 wheels. I might want to recenter. I like how narrow it is at the moment. I'll check it out on the trail.
