Hey Ches, I was thinking about the issue you had while coming down to Moab. I am not sure if the dually would have helped or not but, in any case the Dodge dually tow rig would have been more stable. Lower center of gravity, dual wheels, and heavier rig. Just some thoughts. Did you ever find (or did you even start looking) for a load distrubiting hitch or are you still going to buy that trailer?

I have bought the trailer. Even if I change directions soon I should be able to easily get out of it what I paid for it so we will see what happens.

I hooked the dually up to the trailer exactly how it was behind the powerstroke. The leafs on the dually are A LOT softer than the Ford. It squatted the rear of the truck about 4 inches. As you can see in the pic. I lifted the drop hitch as high as it would go and the trailer was still in a nose dive. I think with this truck it is way to much tongue weight.

I am going to have to play around with the setup and see how it does but I really think I am going to be able to put the tent trailer on the front of the trailer. It will have to sit backwards then the Scouts front wheels will be just in front of the front axle on the trailer. With this truck Im betting its going to be the sweet spot but we will see. In all honesty the Scout will almost be sitting on the trailer where it was when I was pulling it around without the tent trailer. It seemed to tow just fine like that so throwing another 1000 lbs in front of it shouldnt make a difference.

I havent looked for a load distributing hitch at all. Just havent had time but if it comes down to it thats what we will do.

I got the interior of the truck pretty clean and gave it a quick wax job today after work. Ive got to admit......the truck is starting to grow on me already!

Did that Weather Guard tool box come with the truck? If it did you are one lucky Sierra, Oscar, Bravo! That is like an $800.00 tool box! At least that is what they priced me here.

It is a shame that you Scout is not more road friendly. I would bet that if you wanted you could turn the tent trailer 90 degrees on the flat bed and mount it there permanently. I think that you are on the right path as far as loading the trailer goes. I would really start looking at a load distributing hitch. For more reasons than just a level trailer. You may also want to take a look at a Reese Tow Beast. It is a class 5 hitch with a 2 1/2" square tube. Much larger and a heck of a lot more heavy duty. Just some ideas.

The truck is looking sharp. How do you like it so far? Does it have the power you wanted?

I just towed the trailer around the neighborhood a couple times so I could park the trailer on the side of the house. Other than having to start in 1st gear instead of second....the truck doesnt handle any different than with no trailer.

I think its going to pull my puiny trailer with no problems!

And yes....the truck box did come with the truck. It is HUGE!

Other than my wife has been calling me grandpa now.....Im liking the truck a lot

She is just not used to seeing me in a truck with small tires. I told her the Scout makes up for it but she didnt go for that.

The standard is what is getting her tho. I will have to start calling her grandma...lol

Nothing beats a standard transmission for towing. Manuals are hands down the only way to go for heavy towing. If an automatic was better than the trucking industry would have gone to them a long time ago. The control just cannot be matched. They put the power to the ground more efficiently than an auto ever could.

Now, what I am really looking for is an admission that I was right. You know that it is killing me not to hear you say it.

GRANDPA what the...... If I have to look at this every time I log on I will have to come get it back! I tkink the rear springs may be tired of hauling hay. You may need some air bags. I do hope it meets your needs Cheston.

Air bags would help. And it is a nice addition to any tow rig. The ability to run air tools whenever you would need. You know what we should have done is hooked up my rig to your trailer and that way we would have known what you could expect. Hind sight is always 20/20 or better.

He he he.....just have to remember what truck Im coming from here.....

Im positive it will fit my needs otherwise I wouldnt have bought it.

I think a set of airbags is in my very near future. I am a poor boy tho so I will have to get the set you have to fill up with your own compressor. I cant afford a onboard for it

I really like my WD hitch. I'm SURPRISED at the difference it makes while towing (whether it's a ginormous box (our camp trailer) or if it's two rigs on my 26' flatbed). I'm not sure if I'll ever tow without one again?

I don't have airbags and probably should have moved the load around on the trailer to come home but we towed without incident (other than a bit of a mileage hit).
