Are there any doubler kits still around for jeeps like the box for rocks or black box? I just can't find any info on where to get them and you'd think they'd be pretty popular like a marlin crawler for toyotas? Am I just dreaming these still exist? I dont want a tera low and cant afford an atlas right now and I want all the gearing options.

i was just bout to post up the same thing! i dont have problems with over heating but i am going to a bigger radiator, my only concern with doing DD machines crawl box is shortening my rear driveline even though i have extended my wheel base a good 8-9inches in the rear, but it would help my front driveline angles.

So for those who have done the 231-231 doubler kit, could you post up pics of your setup with like driveline angles and what not? it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going to resurrect this thread a bit.

How heavy is a 231/d300 combo? Heavy enough that you should add a cross member?

How about the speedometer of the d300 hooking up to a 1999 xj?

How about floor clearance in a 1999 xj?

I am having my ford d-60 re-tubed it won't be much more to make it passenger side drop, if I did that I could then run the d300 without flipping it. If I did this are there any other issues in an xj other than complete custom exhaust? (I guess the question is "ignoring the axle, what are the pros and cons to flipping the d-300 as opposed to running it pass side drop in an xj?")

Is there someone local that will do the welding on the 231, gravesdiggerxj do you have the tools/skills to do this?

And again how about some pictures?

Thanks!

Yes

Depending on how much you clock the 231 and the d300: NO.

passenger drop would be nice because you can run the shifters straight up, but there is no room on the passenger side floor without cutting it up.
I have the ability to do everything except weld the aluminum 231 blockoff plate.

look in my build thread for pictures

I love mine and with the proper shifter it is so fun to do digs

I have a np203/205 that was in my bronco that I was going to use in the xj.

having a low range and a double low range is so damn nice on the trail, along with twin sticks.

I like the twin stick more for the "RWD low" than anything. But yes I frequently set the parking brake and put it in FWD.

So if I want to keep my passenger compartment relatively intact I should flip the d300 in a 99 xj?

What is "the proper shifter" that you are using?

Thanks!

Well since the shift rails on a d300 are normally directly above the front output, when you flip it the shift rails are directly below it.
Meaning getting a shifter in there is quite a chore.
Duffy has a manual linkage that supposedly works well. Or you can go with a cable shifter.
I bought the Northwest Fab triple stick cable shifter for mine.
203/205 is a stout combo. It's also significantly longer and heavier and larger than the box4rocks. I could see that being some work (but very cool) to fit in an XJ.

210+lbs and more than 10 inches longer than a 231.

Yeah I wanted to use the 203/205 since my drive shafts already hook up to my axles lowering cost. (it was in my bronco with my d-60 and gm 14 bolt)

I would have to convert the ford 203 to a dodge 203 input to mate up to the ax15 and maybe do a spacer ring.

The problem is that in my bronco I had a np435 with a 6.69:1 first gear. The ford 203/205 is stuck at 4:1. (no one makes a 3:1 set for the 203 anymore, and the lowmax kit is only for GM 205's, and is way spendy)

So if I can sell my 203/205 for $900 I can cover the cost of a 231/d300 have lower gearing, smaller lighter case that is still plenty strong for what I need. I never liked the idea of flipping the d300 but as I look into it it gets more attractive.

anyone want a ford 203/205? it will bolt up to just about any ford transmission? will do partial trade for d-300 ;)

I think an excellent combo would be a 203/300 combo. the gearing option would have a wider spread. You wouldn't have the combined low but it would be more usable in more situations

"project tech snob" on NAXJA did that, 203/300. (don't think it is done yet...)

problem is that I already have a ford 203/205 doubler. If I didn't have it already and had a dodge 203 laying around I would do a 203/d-300.

If I could score a bronco dana 20 with an adapter already that would be sweet too.

rough cost for me to install;
ford 203/205, change input to dodge, $200-$400

231/d-300 D&D kit, buy a d-300 other odds and ends, yokes DS work $800-$1000

203/d300 get a dodge 203, get a new doubler kit get a d-300 other bits and pieces... $1200-ish

203/bronco d-20 combo, convert the 203 to dodge, buy $600 adapter for d-20, buy d-20, other odds and ends $1000-ish (I could swap the 205 for the bronco dana 20 at a later date if needed/wanted)

the cheapest is to install what I have, the second cheapest, is the 231/d-300 which is the lightest and lowest gear ratio AND I would have a complete ford 203/205 to sell. they would all be a killer setup. the 203/205 is an extra 100lbs but in the best place to put it, it is kind of like a ballast under the rig.

Also when I start getting up near $2000 for t-case mods I start thinking "f-it get an atlas"

So it has to be cost effective what ever I do which is why the 203/205 is so appealing because I have it.
