Just installed a used t-5 that was in good working order(i drove it and it shifted great) now i am grinding gears 2-3 shift and 3-4 shift. I filled the trans up with royal purple syncromax. Is it syncros or just what?

Try playing with your clutch linkage. It's possible that it's not fully disingaging the cluch. Maybe the synthetic is to light and not slowing the gears down, like a normal 80-90 would.

My AX-5 did that to me a couple years ago, the synchro's were shot and I had it rebuilt after the snap ring behind 5th gear broke. Stupid thing was never right again and the transmission spent more time in the shop than in the jeep for a couple months before I'd had enough and just sold the Jeep, I would say it could very easily be the synchros you could try double clutching or just figure out the right rpm's to shift to keep from grinding like I did until I had it rebuilt.

I had the same troubles with mine t5 then I put some redline MTF (manual transmission Fluid) in it the other day and its seems to be working better... but yes the syncros could be shot... if you put just reg 80-90 gear lube in it will actually eat the brass syncros from what I have been told, and researched... the best you can do is just shift out of 2 and wait a second and then shift into 3rd or just double clutch..

cluth linkage is good.

What do you mean when you say it's good? How much pedal free play is there?
You say it shifted great before you installed it into your jeep. Now that it is in yours it grinds. Has to be an installation problem. Two different syncros don't go from shifting great to hard grinding at the same time over night. Well they could, but....I don't think so.

Just try adjusting your linkage from one extreme to the other. Then fine tune it. Might just solve your problem. Or have you done this already.

another thing it could be is that the input shaft is longer then the one you had so that the clutch isn't making full contact...

did you do your homework and make measurements before you did the install?

I read about using atf and thought it wasn't work it... so I bought the redline mtf.... it was only $13 a quart and it needs 2 so not that much more for piece of mind....

You can search for my thread and read about the different types of fluid and what the troubles are with each...

Clutch has about 1/2 inch freeplay. I drained out a qt and put in a lucas oil additive helped a little. I guess i will pull tranny tommorw night. Just a lot to do moab is three weeks away. I also wonder if i nicked the pilot bushing going in but at the same time wouldnt that cause it to grind through every gear?
