Hey guys, any help would be greatly appreciated, and my wife would apprecaite having her car back... Vehicle is a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WJ) Overland -- 175k miles
Was driving about 60mph on Legacy this morning on the way to work, everything fine..... then the Jeep hesitated, then completely shut off. Gauges turned off, no throttle response, no power steering or brakes. Thankfully traffic was light and I was able to get to the shoulder. Turned the jeep off, let it sit a minute, then tried to start -- it will crank but won't fire. The immobilizer symbol (key with a slash through it) is illuminated. Waited/tried to start for 30+ minutes, nothing. Had a tow truck take it home.
My keyfob hasn't worked since I bought it 10k miles ago, but the key worked fine to get into the jeep. Just a few weeks ago, the key wasn't always disarming the alarm system, so I just started locking the door manually, which doesn't arm the system. Nothing out of the ordinary this morning, unlocked my jeep, drove 14 miles from home and had this happen.
Insult to injury, the alarm is activated, so every time I try to start the car or even open a door the alarm goes off for the 3 minutes until it resets itself. I can't get the key to deactivate the system.
Any ideas? Am I about to get raped by a dealer to fix my key/fob/alarm? I'm going to check all connections (battery, in the door for the key/alarm) and go from there. UGH, it was running so well.
