JK Expo Boxes Installed & Tarantula Hawk

I installed this kit tonight and I thought it might be helpful for someone to see how one is installed. The JK kit looks like this on the bench:

After removing the three T-15 screws, the plastic around the steering column and two 10mm bolts under the column, the installation can begin.

The wiring is complex so read carefully... Find the transponder module and unplug it. Then plug the only harness from the kit not doing anything into the transponder and then the OEM plug into the only open slot big enough in the kit. Done 30 mins.

Tuck the box up under the harness so the cover fit's back over everything:

Put the other box here:

Put 'er all back together and be thankful that this didn't make an appearance until after you were done sticking your head and hands under the dash (and before you hit the freeway):

These things have the most painful sting in nature and I saw it sitting on my lap as I was driving.

I'm with notajeep. Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this but I have never heard of it. Tried google but got no where.

BTW, the Tarantula Hawk Wasp has the most painful sting in nature and I first saw it sitting on my crotch as I began to drive to AF. If I looked down and saw it on the freeway, I probably would've flipped that Jeep just to be sure it was dead.

I will talk about it since it is currently in my jeep.

The basic idea is pretty cool. Last night I had my fridge in the jeep, the lights on the radio blaring, because I was having a huge rave in my driveway. My battery power begin to drain and at the set voltage of 12.1 my now "smart" jeep started itself, ran for a few minutes until the the correct voltage level was reached and then the rig shut down. It comes with a little LCD monitor that tells me up to a mile away that the jeep has started and then lets me know when it shuts back off. I have been stranded in the backcountry due to a dead battery I don't anticipate this happening ever again. No wires were cut or spliced. A factory jeep wiring harness was used to make it plug and play and easy to reverse if needed. 30 minute install. IF you have any questions you can PM me or post up here.

I will be carrying them through alljeep.com

That sounds cool. Are JKs the only application?

It really is pretty cool.
Currently JKs and other chrysler vehicles of similar vintage are the only plug and play application. Other applications require some harness splicing/custom install.

The kit pictured will work with every Chrysler product 07-current with the exception of the KK (Liberty) which is 08-current. As research continues, we hope to find more plug and play solutions like this but until then, a kit can be built for any fuel-injected vehicle but will require the splicing of up to 6 wires in vehicle but will still be pre-harnessed to cut down on installation time.
Until the data-base is built these kits will be available "installed only" until I am confident that it's user-friendly. I know that the most basic of installers can handle this JK kit but I still will want to be involved with the first JK manual trans that's installed just to be sure that's also bullet-proof.
The only other issue would be if the end user already has a dual batt system, we'd like to know because the wiring would change slightly because you'd want to monitor your secondary batt and we'd also adjust the threshold voltage lower (yes, that's adjustable).
The kit pictured can be installed by anyone with an auto trans 07-Chrysler product with zero help. That's probably true for manuals too but I'd like to do one personally first.

Sounds like a great idea

EDIT: If I saw that Tarantula Hawk in my rig I'd take the Tacoma approach and burn it to the ground while shooting into the flames.

I believe that like other wasps, it will sting and bite. The hawk is not supposed to be as aggressive as other wasps, but that didn't give me any comfort when it's over my junk.
