it makes the application process nice and saves alot of time but i miss being able to meet whom ever is in charge and make an impression on them. i think that part of applying for a job goes a long way.
This goes back to that saying "It's not what you know, It's who you know." When I got hired on my current job I knew 3 people of a 8 person team. We were talking about it later and all but 1 guy had worked with or associated with someone else on the team prior.
If there is a job you really want and must apply online for, make an effort to call them and try to set up an interview on your own.
I'm in the hiring process after posting an add on craigslist... just a college $10/hour job. looking for someone with at least a little experience. 50+ resumes.... it sucks
