I would have to say that I like applying for jobs on the internet instead of the old way of driving hundreds of miles to fill out applications:D

It has it's drawbacks too though. I think it's harder to actually get in front of someone because they receive so many applications because it's so easy...not that it's a bad thing :D I know when I was hiring it was nice to be able to go through 30+ applications instead of three barely legible handwritten ones :p

it makes the application process nice and saves alot of time but i miss being able to meet whom ever is in charge and make an impression on them. i think that part of applying for a job goes a long way.

If there is a job you really want and must apply online for, make an effort to call them and try to set up an interview on your own.

the job search is a pain. I spent over 2 years and sent in hundreds of resume's before I found my current job, and I hope that I don't have to deal with that ever again. Pretty frustrating. It may be easy to hit 'submit', but it's not easy to get your foot in the door especially when there are desperate people out there that will work for next to nothing just to be working....even in advanced fields.

This goes back to that saying "It's not what you know, It's who you know." When I got hired on my current job I knew 3 people of a 8 person team. We were talking about it later and all but 1 guy had worked with or associated with someone else on the team prior.

that is a truism for sure 99% of the jobs i've had in my lifetime have been set up by someone i already knew in the company. i'm hoping to change fields and don't have any connections except in the automotive industry. so online apps here i come :ugh:

I'm in the hiring process after posting an add on craigslist... just a college $10/hour job. looking for someone with at least a little experience. 50+ resumes.... it sucks

Totally agree! Every job i've ever been with was found through people i know.

My current job I got without knowing someone and it's kind of funny because all the guys I work with asked me, so who do you know? They're shocked when I don't know anyone. Usually you don't get on in IT with my company unless you know someone. :p

My last job, I applied and never got a call back or nothing. Then my father-in-law was recruited by them and he suggested me to them, they said have him submit an application  I ended up getting that same job that I originally applied for and was more qualified than my boss...even she said so. I moved up quickly at that company and was out of that position in only a few months.

For some reason, I kind of like looking for work (well, I like looking when I have a job...it took me 8 months to get a job when I was out-of-work :) granted I wasn't really trying)

My last job they found my resume online and it was after they hired me that they realized I had never applied, so 2 days after i started work I had to fill out an application:D

Not sure what your background or skills are, but we're looking for an electric motor rewinder.

With electric motors I've changed out bearings but no rewinding.
I saw an opening at Energy Management and the pump experience I have but not the motors. Is that where you are?

Two of the positions I've held since I retired from the Navy have been thanks to people I know. My current position is thanks to applying to something completely unrelated. While unemployed 3 years ago, I had applied to many online postings with the company I now work for. I called their HR director and believe that helped. After I was already hired by them for a position in Nevada, I received an offer to transfer. Took the position and moved from Cali to Utah.

Unless I speak to you in Danish I don’t want to converse in any thing but English. So if you speak or write anything in any other language than English during this process I will call INS. You are in my country and to be in my country English is the only way.

Praise the lord!
