KOH stock class

I'm sure you guys have all heard that KOH has added 2 classes to the race. I was wondering on what type of vehicle do you think is going to win the stock class? I figured I would ask here because you guys would have the most knowledge of the rules and exceptions.
Rules
http://ultra4racing.com/racers/rulebook/

What I read stock class is: stock motor, stock tranny, Tcase can be replaced, any axles but portals, 35's for maximum tire, suspension must be stock style.
So what do you think is going to take the checkered flag?

I'm guessing an f-toy, since they've had several in the top 25 in years past (yes, with leaf springs!). Actually, I'm just guessing f-toy because I want it to be an f-toy :D

I'm curious about the "stock style" suspension ruler. I could see somethnig like a ford ranger or a tacoma doing pretty well. Or maybe even a JK.

I think the way the rules are for the classes f-toy would be in the ultra 4 class.

I seriously considered entering our TJ into the stock mod (mostly for fun, not to be competitive) until I discovered no full hydro :-\

As far as the stock class, I really think it could be anything. I think a V8 Grand Cherokee would be the way I would go if I was going to build one up for it.

Obviously an LJ would do really well.

I thinking a JK could be a sweet rig: dana 60's

anchors with 35s

I agree. Some well built dana 44's or toyota axles, or diamond or sixty9 axles would rock.

I wonder if they'll have to do all the tough trails still in johnson valley. Given the limitations (within a 3" of stock wheelbase, 35's, no major frame modifications) will make it up backdoor.

I think it's a great idea, it still won't be an "affordable" class, but I'm sure it'll spur the development of a lot of new products.

from what I understand suspension in stock class is limited to what vehicle came with...
exp: If its linked you have to stay with links, stock leafs has to stay leafs, so i would assume Ifs has to stay IFS

but they don't care what links or leafs you use
shocks have to be stock style no coil overs unless it came stock with them

what's your prediction brandon? I'm going to say a newer tacoma with the 4.0 and a total chaos kit with some type of strut up front. Or maybe a JK, those things could be built to the hilt and still be in the guidelines.

I don't know for sure... I think you need high HP to do it. I have been searching the internet for like a week putting together ideas.

I think a 1999- 2004 ford 150 svt lightning, with the rules you can use parts from same make and model of the years it came with a 5.4 supercharged motor 380HP
change to a 4wd tranny and tcase from a 4wd ford and custom long travel front suspension with a 9in rear.

Im not a ford guy at all but that truck would be sick, those years still the small body 150 too

THe rules state that it has to be a 4wd.

"Any and all four-wheeled, four-wheel-drive production vehicles are eligible for competition, providing they meet all the rules and regulations specified herein"

The way I read the rules is that you have to start with a 4wd truck. But maybe i read it wrong. That's a sweet looking truck, and I"ll bet it's way fast. But I wonder how well it'd do in the rock crawling sections.

'04 supercharged, manual trans, Tacoma w/ beefed Total Chaos suspension, high travel rear leaf setup, non-trd axle w/ARB, front ARB locker...

Could be fun.

I would agree but, I read on pirate4x4 the tacoma super charger was ruled after market since it was a dealer option and not factory.

it still won't be an "affordable" class

I disagree, although "affordable" is relative. For some, the $600 entry fee would make the event not affordable. However, for someone who just wants to get out and have fun racing, this is much more feasible than building a $100k car.

yeah, I was talking $10k affordable. Granted, you could easily build a car for $5k that'd meet the criteria, but I'm guessing the winning car in this class is still $80k+

I am thinking LJ, the initial rig cost sucks though. Also the I6 engine would take a big chunk of$.
I am also assuming that engine mods are allowed.

its goin to either an LJ or a Toy in stock mod

Stock mod is basically a buggy that has to look like a production vehicle... and no full hydro. Any "vehicle" could win that class, not much advantage by choosing one vehicle or the next.
