Maybe Stratton is comparing a Tacoma to a good, all-American small truck like the... Ford Ranger!

What? That's a reskinned Mazda... Well maybe the Chevy Colorado! What? it sucks? Hmmmm.... Yeah. I'm not sure what else is out there right now. Like the Jeep JK, there is just not really much competition in that segment.

Just cause there's not a person on here that is named Ranger or Colorado or S10 doesn't mean they're not cool. I think you're biased Tacoma.

 I don't like them that much. They are still small, anemic, IFS trucks... they're just.. better than the competition, which is pretty thin. :D

Hey Butthead, my anemic, IFS truck is at the top of the list! That's right, my Kansas City assembled F-150 (that I would guess is 50% American built at best).

Toyota owners, face it. Your truck is NOT american built. Neither is my JK or my F-150. All cars are built worldwide, and assembled "somewhere". But carry on, the butthurt is always epic in these kind of threads. ;)

How is your Tacoma shopping going anyways? ;)

For the record, I couldn't give 2 shits where my Tacoma was made :D In fact I wish it were made in the Araco (now Mr T) plant in Japan proper as the quality of US spec Toyota's and Japanese built Toyota's is noticeable in my opinion, the parts from the two countries are not the same, Japanese built parts are upper echelon in terms of quality and naturally fit for a Japanese built vehicle. I applaud efforts to keep dollars domestic, but I think you can do far more in terms of not buying into the 'throw away' marketing than buying any vehicle these days.

Now, if the OP was in the market for an off the lot 4x4 capable of 4+ trail in Moab, Toyota doesn't have a US product for that niche and in my opinion the JK is the absolute top contender there, in fact they are the only contender and good on them. A solid platform, locker packages, more aftermarket support than any other 4x4 and a proven track record all over the world. Lets compare spades to spades. Looking for a go fast desert truck, the Toyota Pre-Runner can stay home as the Ford Raptor is the absolute shit. Add a few conservative upgrades and they are literally ready for 100 mph down the Baja peninsula. Need to tow a triple car hauler across the lower 48, leave the Toyota home there too, the big 3 diesels are going to win. Aces are aces.

It's coming. For me, I think the Tacoma best fits my intended purpose. Having spent thousands of miles in one on and off road, and having been in and worked on (mostly interior stuff admittedly) all of the comparable domestic trucks, I just don't think the "domestic" trucks are built quite as well. They certainly don't have the same sort of international support as the Toyota (you can find toyota parts just about anywhere in the world), and with the amount of dirt miles I plan to put on the vehicle, I just feel there isn't enough real world feedback to support the claim that the Ford/Chevy/Dodge 1/4 ton trucks are just as reliable and at a better price point. The Frontier is probably the closest, but I want to run at least 33's, and it takes far more work to put 33's on a frontier than it does on a Tacoma.

I couldn't care less if it's a Toyota. If there was a Kia truck that had the same pro's, I'd buy a Kia. The brand loyal douchebags can stay brand loyal and can continue to buy their brand based on it not being another brand. I like my vehicles for what they are, not for what they aren't.

Whether or not the majority of the parts are manufactured in the US, and the vehicle is assembled here, doesn't take away from the fact that it's not an American company I guess. But if you want to get all Team America on us, then what would you rather: A company based in a foreign country that exports and creates jobs in America, or an American company that exports jobs to Mexico and Indo-china?

I think that's really the deal-- to find what fits your needs. A lot of people think I have some overwhelming loyalty to Chevy, but that's not true: I like them because you can build them cheaply and easily, and there are parts everywhere (and yes, you might need them if you own one). I had FSJ's before that but got tired of the idiosyncracies of the brand.

Whatever works. An extended cab, diesel Tacoma would be really, really attractive to me if I could fit my family in it.

As for the whole "Team America" thing hahahah--- jobs in America means people here can afford to feed their kids, so maybe the Big Three ought to pay attention. I spent time in South Carolina, and those people are STOKED to be building Beemers there.

Wow. Look what I did. I just thought the guy was an asshat for saying it was "only sideswiped by a semi". But I'll chime in. I love Fords. If you don't we can still be friends. I love Glocks. If you like XD's we can still be friends. My Jeep is the worst vehicle I have ever owned for parts replaced compared to miles driven, but I love it. Drive and shoot what you like, we can still be friends. Unless you voted for Obama. Thats my line.

Ha ha... very good.

I like any vehicle that is fun to drive, and is the right price.

Apparently, I also love the taste of my foot in my mouth, which has been happening more and more lately. Dammit.

Insurance companies look at totals different today. They put it up for auction for the remaining parts and that sets its value. Than they low ball you as a totaled rig deducting for every little thing like tires, carpet, paint, int seats, glass, miles........ Hoping you'll take less than the auction bids minus your deductible and than low ball it's true value.
They than made money off your accident.

When my wife totaled our 2009 Cadillac CTS. The insurance cut us a check for 38k and there was not much to re sell I highly doubt the insurance company made any money on that deal especially after medical expenses...............
