Talking with my safety dept at work, they have high praises for Kennecot. I am impressed with your safety track record there, and the safety culture they have. That's rare, especially in the mining industry.

it would be so kewl if they took a very high resolution camera and set it up across the pit and had it take a picture or two every day for the next year... then post it up for everyone to see the progress! I would pay to see the images!

My wife's boss is one of the people in charge of figuring out the cause and what they could have done different. My wife says they will have to go back many years to figure it out. We are in Deer Valley because she has a week of training. There are several people in the training that are involved. I'm not sure what things she told me are "classified" or not so I am hesitant to say anything. I will say that the video shows nothing that they can use in the investigation and the equipment buried is worth more than I have seen stated in this thread. I'm sure they are keeping everyone in the dark including employees until the investigation is finished. I figure the investigation will take months. It's going to take a lot of money to fix, not including all the time and money lost in the mining operations. I hope and pray it will not end up in many layoffs and will get fixed before they go under financially.

updated numbers ive heard are 15 haul trucks, 3-4 dozers, 3 shovels, a couple graders, plus a TON of parts (100+ tires, finals, etc), plus a bunch of support trucks and a few buildings. the rain that night helped keep the dust to a minimum, but it most likely triggered it as well. a gallon=8lbs, so that whole slope got ALOT heavier even with a light sprinkle.

That is a lot of equipment. Hopefully they have enough extra equipment to dig them all out.
