I believe that you can still purchase tickets as a spectator of Cruiserfest at the discounted rate. That will be helpful to the off road programs at Miller Motorsports Park. I will verify this tomorrow..
This proved to be slightly more work than I had expected from what the CruiserFest website said. Had a little debate about what words mean in the English language counter vs. what they mean in real life... turned out ok though, since I had bags of stuff I was delivering to Sarge and Kurt.
I'm sure any future issues will be resolved before next year's event, and I should be very clear that I am in no way upset, angry, disappointed, irritated, etc with anyone at MMP.
On to the event! I absolutely love MMP's open pits. For gearheads, this is almost as good as the events themselves! And for a short course dirt race, that means you get to watch the tire groovers, see the repair work... I got a ride back to the gate last night w/Kurt and Steve J., and we passed a team removing the engine from deep within the chassis of their stripped-and-being-regenerated truck. I love that stuff.
Racing was good, but all the jumps were on the west side of the course, while the grandstands were on the east-- so you could see the trucks jumping behind all the stuff in the center of the course but it was at that distance. The grandstands did offer a great view of one stretch of jumps, a sweet turn, the mogully section, and an nice drifty sweeper, as well as a rear view of all the tabletops, which was awesome. I'm not sure that, given the constraints of the current layout, it could really be done better, but I think something will change with this. I talked to a bunch of team folks in the pits, mostly asking how they liked it there, and to a man they said they wished the spectators were closer-- bbut they were all pretty stoked about the facilities and UT's weather and scenery. So that's the honest opinion they gave me, the guy with no affiliation that asked 'em.
I was pleased to hear it, too, because I freakin' love watching the races over there, whatever vehicles are competing.
My only real gripe was with the kind of erratic shuttle service. The offroad park is in East Guam... and the shuttle service back there was a little spotty... but it was a pleasant, if long, stroll back through the pits, so it's not the end of the world. And I managed to catch a ride with one of the many golf carts speeding around on a couple of our trips, plus Kurt was Johnny-on-the-spot with the awesome chauffer service. Thanks again, Kurt!
Overall a good time, my son was stoked to be there, loved the trucks and the sno-cones and climbing all over the rock course afterwards (despite losing a flip-flop, very sad for him hahah).
I will be going back in about an hour to watch today's events as well. Get out there if you are waffling on going!!! it's a great time!
