Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Coming to Miller Motorsports Park 2010

I believe that you can still purchase tickets as a spectator of Cruiserfest at the discounted rate. That will be helpful to the off road programs at Miller Motorsports Park. I will verify this tomorrow. I just was to fill you in on some new news that most of you may not know yet. We are hosting the western finals for WEROCK on The evening of July 30th and Saturday July 31st. Bringing competition Rock Crawling back to the Salt lake Valley. We are also hosting the east vs. west finals event for WEROCK the first weekend in October. Put these dates on your calendar. We also plan to host 4 regional competitions sanctioned by WEROCK next year and plan to host 2 WEROCK events in 2011. Those of you who have been out to the off road course know that it needs more extreme obstacles and will be receiving a make over starting when the Lucas race is over.

The offroad course needs MORE obstacles, of any kind. :D Please see: Delta's county fairgrounds, Mr. Craig Stumph, etc. :D I'm stoked for the WEROCK deal though, that's gonna be a great event.

I'll be out there this weekend for sure, this Lucas race is going to be sweet too!! Keep up the good work.

This proved to be slightly more work than I had expected from what the CruiserFest website said. Had a little debate about what words mean in the English language counter vs. what they mean in real life... turned out ok though, since I had bags of stuff I was delivering to Sarge and Kurt. :D I'm sure any future issues will be resolved before next year's event, and I should be very clear that I am in no way upset, angry, disappointed, irritated, etc with anyone at MMP.

On to the event! I absolutely love MMP's open pits. For gearheads, this is almost as good as the events themselves! And for a short course dirt race, that means you get to watch the tire groovers, see the repair work... I got a ride back to the gate last night w/Kurt and Steve J., and we passed a team removing the engine from deep within the chassis of their stripped-and-being-regenerated truck. I love that stuff.
Racing was good, but all the jumps were on the west side of the course, while the grandstands were on the east-- so you could see the trucks jumping behind all the stuff in the center of the course but it was at that distance. The grandstands did offer a great view of one stretch of jumps, a sweet turn, the mogully section, and an nice drifty sweeper, as well as a rear view of all the tabletops, which was awesome. I'm not sure that, given the constraints of the current layout, it could really be done better, but I think something will change with this. I talked to a bunch of team folks in the pits, mostly asking how they liked it there, and to a man they said they wished the spectators were closer-- bbut they were all pretty stoked about the facilities and UT's weather and scenery. So that's the honest opinion they gave me, the guy with no affiliation that asked 'em. :D I was pleased to hear it, too, because I freakin' love watching the races over there, whatever vehicles are competing.
My only real gripe was with the kind of erratic shuttle service. The offroad park is in East Guam... and the shuttle service back there was a little spotty... but it was a pleasant, if long, stroll back through the pits, so it's not the end of the world. And I managed to catch a ride with one of the many golf carts speeding around on a couple of our trips, plus Kurt was Johnny-on-the-spot with the awesome chauffer service. Thanks again, Kurt!

Overall a good time, my son was stoked to be there, loved the trucks and the sno-cones and climbing all over the rock course afterwards (despite losing a flip-flop, very sad for him hahah).
I will be going back in about an hour to watch today's events as well. Get out there if you are waffling on going!!! it's a great time!

And very nice to see you as well, amigo!

The action today was intense. Lots of rubbin', trucks spinning out, trucks flipping over, and drivers exchanging words. And lots of jumping!! Man, those things GO. I loved the moguls right before the last turn....
Hung out with Kurtis Blow before he headed home after a long weekend, and hooked up with the Summit crew for the rest of the racing.. nice seeing everyone. Great racing, CruiserFest, Teraflex, friends galore. I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. :D

Not even one word about riding in the 55, parading out on the race track with 40+ Land Cruisers.. Nice, I enjoyed your company too.

Lemme get this straight... You're upset that you were NOT recognized as an associate of Tacoma?

Either way, I really wish I would have been able to make it out there. I would have told the whole world about Sami taking me for a ride in his little piggy. Plus, I'd have been happy to have Tacoma keep me company. For a few minutes. :p

I'll have to make it next year. :)

Aaarrrgh!! I typed a big paragraph about Jude's adventures in the 55.. stupid phone!!!

I'm sorry, Grizzly Adams. I enjoyed every uncomfortable second of riding in the plush and luxurious, pristine Creamsicle. :) Jude also enjoyed going for the parade lap, and told my mom all about it this morning, including the bleeding.... (no, Jason had nothing to do w/it, he gets occasional nosebleeds ;)

I feel bad about that chunk being accidentally deleted-- it also had the bits about hanging out with 'that Faulkner kid' at the Teraflex tent (and Vinnie), running into the Schoon Collective, BHR, etc. I will have to be more careful with my thumbs next time.

The high flying fender to fender, and in some cases bumper to fender action being instigated by 800hp competitive egos is simply incredible to watch; and now that it's right in our backyard - TO BE A PART OF! If the racing isn't enough, as Tacoma brought up, you can stand just feet away from a still smoking rig as a crew of dudes armed with battery powered impact drills, wrenches, sawzalls, etc tear down it apart in just minutes - motors included... Carted off to be inspected and spruced up in their trailer for the next battle on the course. One or two guys pull off the series of massive shocks for inspection and rebuilds, while another small crew takes any still useable body panels to a nearby wash basin or hose. They scrub off the mud clods and wipe all the panels clean. While they are doing that, there is another crew wiping off the truck, every tube and connection is cleaned off..

The open pits to me were the highlight of the weekend. Being a part of the circus of these guys was just too cool. I do kick myself for not taking any long exposure night shots of the crews wrenching and rebuilding throughout the night in preperation for Sunday's events... That would have been full of win.. Next year.. It was cool to see the nightlife of these race teams. With spectators long gone, the roads around the temporary Lucas Oil town came alive with crews toting parts, tires, panels, food, Pro 4, Pro 2 trucks, and buggies romping around testing out new suspension and steering; guys in line to spray down their trucks, UTV's, and fights breaking out due to constant over-spray from the water hose.. It was awesome..

What an awesome event, and opportunity for utahns to be a part. I'm stoked that Miller Motorsports Park is persistantly working to diversify its lineup of event, and has brought off-road short course racing to it's already awesome racing menu.

I'll have loads of pics up in the near future.

Short course racing rocks. Simple as that. The pits were amazing, teams letting us crawl all over their rigs, watching them work, watching them cut, grind, weld... too cool.

I listened to it all day while "next door" at Deseret Peak Complex with me kids at a horse show. From what we could see from there, the jumps etc seemed like it would have been a blast to watch.

I'll vouch for ya'. You had the UGLIEST rig in the whole parade!

I believe Kurt was bringing up the rear, with Rod Millen up front?

That was the Millen Retro 45 up front and my 40 piloted by my buddy Jake in the back. And yeah there were a couple of ugly pigs in the middle :D
