Maxxis Creepy Crawler 37x12.5-16

Initial impressions:

They look tall! The only other Maxxis tires I have run were the 35" Mudzillas. Those measured 33 7/8s, more than an inch under the advertised size. The Mudzillas had more traction than any other tire I have ever used. I was excited to see that these tires are very close to the advertised size. The tread blocks are huge and look like they would take to grooving nicely.

Measurements:

Mounted on a 16x8 beadlock I measured them at 36 5/8s tall (will fit nicely under a 37" UROC caliper :D ), and 12.5 inches wide, at the bulgiest part of the sidewall.

The tread is about .84" inches deep! Compare that to my 38x14.5-15 Super Swamper SX (almost brand new, has two or three trips on it) with only .55" deep tread! These tires will last a long time, but by the time the tread wears out they'll only be a 35! :D

They're TIGHT on the wheels too. Hard to even get the beadlocks inside them. They take about 20 pounds of air to seat the bead, and when it seats it makes a satisfying *pop* sound. They don't just wallow into place like some other tires. I think you could prolly run these tires at pretty low pressure on an 8 inch non-beadlock wheel and rarely if ever lose a bead.

My swampers took 45 psi before they seated. 20 seems kinda low to me.
Just my experience. :confused:

I think thats a big thing with swampers, the beads seem to be real inconsistent...some guys report having a bead so thick they cant use beadlocks till they get them shaved down, and like you two just pointed out Hickeys takes 45 psi to seat and RockMonkeys take 6 to 8 to seat...I have heard of this exact same type of things several times...


those tires look sweet, and thats cool they are so tall...so is UROC still going to use the caliper or is it by sidewall markings?

37" caliper.

Also consider diffent makes/sizes/styles of wheels have different safety beads....16.5's have harderly any....

I've always heard that about 16.5s, but is there a reason why? Is there any reason someone couldn't make a 16.5 with a more substantial safety bead?

16.5s vary, aftermarket dont have a safety bead (I dont know why and I see no reason someone couldn't build one into the design) but some factory 16.5s have a safety bead...so obviously it is possible :-\

I don't know how many people care about this, but they have probably the best sidewall traction of any of the currently available rockcrawling tires. Everyone that was running them seemed to really like them.

What pressures were you running (lower seemed better to me-- about 2-4 psi or so)? I thought they'd work good after working with Creighton's.

One of the BFG employees from the trailer came over to check them out. He said the tread felt nice and soft, and should have really good traction.
Also, they are still in great shape. The edges are a little rounded off like you would expect, but there is no "chunking" of the tread or cutting. I think they are going to hold up really well.

I think they'll hold up great!........ I made Creighton beat the sh!t of them a few times and they really didn't even flinch. I think we ran them with a little too much pressure, though.l

I'm fairly confident he got them from UPS direct from the mfg. I'd also be interested in knowing availability and pricing.

I started with 2.5 psi in rear, and about 4 in front. Too floppy, they would hook HARD and start hopping. (that's when I broke my Tcase) I ended up running 5 psi in back, and 6 up front, and they worked really really well.

They work at least as well as my BFG Krawlers did, so I'm totally happy with 'em. :)
