Mineral Basin camping trip and night wheeling 9/10/10

This will be my shakedown run for my '81 I've been building. If I set this date in stone then I'm more likely to get my rig finished in time. There will be two groups leaving. 1st group's min requirements are either 33's or a locker. 2nd group is open to anyone, regardless of rig specs. Both groups are invited to camp up at the top of Mineral Basin for an overnighter.

September 10th, AF canyon.

Group 1 - led by Sixstringsteve
Meet Friday night (9/10/10) at 5:30 at the Chevron near Kohlers in highland. It's on the corner of Alpine Highway and Highland highway.

While I usually say the more the merrier, our group was too big last time, so I'd like to keep it down to 10-15 capable rigs. (33's or a locker min)

Those who have RSVP'ed
- Sixstringsteve (toyota)
- Todd (not on RME) (Jeep)
- Al (not on RME) (Jeep)
- Yota4unner (toyota)
- Pelygroso (tentative, toyota)
- 864runner (toyota)
- Ricsrx (toyota)
- littlyota (still tentative) (I assume it's a yota)
- smokin camel (still tentative) (toyota)
- slc97sr5 (toyota)
- abhaulr1 (not sure which group you wanted to run in) (jeep)
- Redneck bronco (may be in group 2, I'm not sure) (sami)
- Schafer n sons (may be in group 2, I'm not sure) (toyota)

Group 2 - Led by TomTom's 90
Meet Friday night (9/10/10) at 8:30 at the Chevron near Kohlers in highland. It's on the corner of Alpine Highway and Highland highway.
Tom Tom has requested that for group two you have at least 31's and some sort of lift. Stock vehicles will be declined.

- TomTom's 90
- mike20
- t-scout
- 01XJ
+ a few more from Mike's club
- Ima9er (not sure which group you're planning on running with)

I'll be heading over to the low range show n shine on 9/11 after we pack up.

yeah, unless you're from Alpine/Highland, then 4-corners refers to the Kohlers/Chevron/Wells Fargo area. I'll delete it to make it clearer. Thanks for helping keep it clear.

Just being devil's advocate... how do you "keep down" the number of people who show up? Doesn't sound possible in an open access wheeling society.

Just because they have the right to be on the trails doesn't mean the trail leader has the ethical obligation to make them feel at home nor welcome them into camp.

For instance I usually don't allow Libby's along with me, your the obvious exception :D

Here's how:

We could also have a second group that heads up later and catches up with us if there are enough people wanting to go.

I can obviously only impact the people invited via RME. I don't want to tell people they can't come on the trail, they can. But it's going to clog up fast if we have more than 10-15 people all at the same time. If we have another group of 20+ rigs, the people in the back are going to get bored. If enough people want to come we could have two or three time slots to keep it from getting too cluttered.

EXACTLY!

good, and extra parts too I hope ;) I hope I don't need the strap, but I'm man enough to admit it when I do.

I just hope my truck makes it up and back. I won't have sliders by then, so I'll be taking it somewhat easy, but I don't think there are any rocks big enough to touch my rocker panels anyway.

I maybe able to make this trip. I would love to get back out there. Not sure if I would camp or not.

And yes there were way to many rigs last time. Please no offense to anyone, but your stock truck on 31's is just not enough when trying to get a group through the rock garden. Even on small tires please have a locker. Also if you know you are not built well try and partner up with someone "bigger" in front of you have the strap ready.

Also please listen if you are struggling and someone walks up and tries to help. Although you do not know if they know how to spot or not, odds are if the jump in they probably have to confidence and experience to get you through.

I have no idea who the guy was, but who ever got mad at me for trying to help you, then made it over after I stepped in needs an attitude adjustment. I will just drink my beer and watch you break your stuff next time.

Minimum requirements are not to hurt anyone's feeling, just to get the group through without a lot of trouble.

Well said. It took way too long last time. Don't get me wrong, I had a blast, but with a big group you need more capable rigs to fly through it. I'm guessing we're going to have a big group again this time, so let's either split it up into two time slots an hour or two apart, or keep it to rigs with 33's and/or a locker.
